Job Title: Senior Research Associate Location: Cairo, Egypt Employing Entity: Essam & May Allam Foundation (EMAF) Reports to: Mariam Essam Allam (EMAF Founder); Asim Khwaja (Harvard University, Project PI)<br>The Essam & May Allam Foundation (EMAF), established in 2025 by the Essam Hassan Allam family, is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty in Egypt through evidence-based, high-impact initiatives in agriculture and education. To this end, EMAF has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Harvard Center for International Development (CID) to advance effective philanthropy and evidence-based programming in early childhood and primary education across Egypt. The Center for International Development (CID) is Harvard University’s hub for cutting-edge research on the world’s most pressing international development issues. Based at Harvard Kennedy School, CID brings researchers and practitioners together across the university to collaborate, using the latest analytical tools to address pressing development challenges. The Senior Research Associate will be based at EMAF and work under the direction of Principal Investigator Asim Khwaja and the management team at CID to support the implementation of the Egypt Education Systems Opportunity Assessment project. The Opportunity Assessment seeks to identify high-leverage opportunities for philanthropic investment, policy innovation, and future research collaboration in Egypt’s education sector, with an initial focus on early childhood and primary education. Drawing on existing evidence, stakeholder engagement, and targeted fieldwork, the project will identify key challenges, evidence gaps, and promising investment and policy opportunities to improve education outcomes in Egypt.
