About us
Swypex is a platform designed to simplify business finances by providing tools for seamless payments, streamlined invoice management, and access to working capital. Our solutions help businesses gain greater control and insight into their financial health, allowing them to focus on growth. We are dedicated to empowering organizations with innovative financial tools that drive efficiency and success.
Role Description
We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team in Cairo, a small, high-caliber group working across backend, frontend, mobile, and data. You will own the development, performance, and day-to-day experience of the team, and partner closely with senior leadership on how the team operates and grows.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will spend most of your time with your team: coaching engineers, running 1:1s that move careers forward, raising the hiring bar, shaping culture, and making sure the team is set up to do its best work. You will be the person engineers look to for clarity, support, and feedback, and the person senior leadership relies on to keep the team strong, engaged, and shipping well.
We are looking for someone with strong judgment, a high standard for what good engineering teams look like, and the maturity to operate with significant autonomy.
What You Will Own
The growth of every engineer on the team. You will run 1:1s that matter, build individual development plans, give the kind of feedback engineers remember years later, and make sure no one on this team is coasting or stuck. Every engineer should leave this team a stronger engineer than they joined. Performance management. You will set clear expectations, hold people to them, recognize excellent work, and address underperformance early and with care. You will run performance reviews that are honest, calibrated, and useful, not bureaucratic theater. Engineering culture in Cairo. Standups, retros, on-call hygiene, code review norms, how the team handles incidents, how new joiners are onboarded, and how the team celebrates wins. The texture of daily life on this team is yours to shape. Retention and engagement. You will know how every engineer on the team is doing professionally and personally, and you will act before small issues become resignations. You will be the person engineers go to when something is wrong, and you will fix it. Operational excellence of the team. You will work with senior leadership on roadmap commitments and deliver health, making sure the team is set up to ship reliably without burning out.
What You Will Do
Run weekly 1:1s with every direct report focused on growth, blockers, and the things people will not say in a group setting. Build a career framework for the team if one does not exist, and use it. Promotions should be earned, predictable, and defensible. Coach team members on communication, scoping, stakeholder management, technical writing, working with product, and operations. Run regular skip-levels and team health checks; surface what you learn to senior leadership with proposed actions, not just observations. Represent the engineering team to the rest of the company, product, operations, finance, and people with credibility and clarity. Partner with senior leadership on delivery: scope, sequencing, capacity, and risk, making sure the team has what it needs to execute.
What We Are Looking For
Significant experience leading and developing software engineering teams. A demonstrable track record of growing engineers: people you have managed who went on to senior, staff, or leadership roles, and can credit you as part of why. A high bar for hiring and a strong opinion about what “good” looks like at every engineering level. Comfort with directness. You can deliver hard feedback, address underperformance, and have the difficult conversation early. Excellent written and verbal communication. You can write a performance review, a hiring rubric, a team update, and an incident postmortem at the right level for the right audience. Strong technical literacy enough to be credible with engineers, engage meaningfully on trade-offs, and earn the team’s trust. Operational instincts. You notice when standups feel off, when code reviews are slowing, when one person is doing too much, when morale is dipping, and you act. Personal accountability. You measure yourself by the trajectory of the team, not by activity.

Head of Engineering

About Aggarly
Aggarly is building the operating system for short-term rental management in the MENA region. Our platform brings property management, reservations, channel management, guest operations, staff operations, service providers, payments and automation into one connected ecosystem. We are approaching launch and are now hiring our first full-time engineering leader. This is not a traditional engineering management position. We are looking for someone who wants to take technical ownership of a startup, work directly with the founders, remain deeply hands-on, and build the engineering team around them.
The Role
As Head of Engineering, you will become the internal technical owner of Aggarly. You will inherit an existing production-stage platform and work closely with the founding team to understand, strengthen and evolve the architecture as we launch and scale. You will be expected to write code, make architecture decisions, improve engineering standards, own deployments and infrastructure, mentor engineers, and gradually build and lead the engineering organization. For the right person, this role is intended to develop into CTO as Aggarly grows.
What You’ll Own
Technical architecture and engineering direction Backend, frontend and mobile architecture Production reliability and performance AWS infrastructure and deployment practices CI/CD and engineering workflows Security and access-control practices Code quality, testing and technical debt Technical documentation Engineering hiring and mentorship Technical evaluation of new features and integrations Incident response and production troubleshooting Working directly with the CEO on product and technical priorities You will initially be highly hands-on. We are not looking for someone who only wants to manage engineers.
Current Technology
Our platform currently includes technologies such as:Python / Django React / Next.js React Native Postgre SQLRedis AWSDocker Terraform Git Hub / CI/CDExact stack matching is less important than strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to take ownership of a complex existing product.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for an experienced engineer or technical leader who has:Strong full-stack software engineering experience Deep backend and systems understanding Experience shipping and operating real production software Strong knowledge of databases, APIs and distributed systems Experience with cloud infrastructure Strong understanding of software architecture and security Experience reviewing and improving existing codebases Experience mentoring or leading engineers Strong debugging and problem-solving ability Good product judgment and business understanding Experience working in fast-moving startup environments Experience with Saa S, marketplaces, fintech/payments, travel technology or property technology is a strong advantage.
What Matters Most
We care less about titles and more about ownership. We want someone who takes responsibility when something breaks, challenges weak technical decisions, communicates clearly, and is capable of building systems rather than simply completing tickets. You should be comfortable moving between architecture discussions and writing production code. This is a full-time leadership position and Aggarly must be your primary professional commitment.
Why Join Aggarly
This is an opportunity to join at a defining stage of the company. You will:Join the core founding team Have significant influence over the product and technology Work directly with the CEOBuild the engineering organization around you Help define engineering culture from the beginning Receive competitive compensation Participate in long-term equity upside Have a clear path toward becoming Aggarly’s CTO based on performance and leadership
Application
Please apply with your Linked In profile or CV. Rather than a traditional cover letter, we’d also like you to briefly tell us:What is the most technically difficult production system you have personally owned? What specifically were you responsible for? Why does joining an early-stage company at this level interest you? We are deliberately keeping the hiring process selective. This is a core leadership hire, not simply another engineering position.

Sustain GRC is a governance intelligence infrastructure platform for non-financial data. Founded in London in 2022 and endorsed by the UK government as an innovator, we hold risk, internal audit, compliance, resilience, board governance, AI governance and sustainability on a single data model — built as one system rather than assembled through acquisition.
Our customers are mid-to-large enterprises and sovereign entities across EMEA and the GCC, operating under DORA, NIS2, the EU AI Act and equivalent regional supervision. When a regulator or auditor asks them to defend a number, our platform is what makes that number defensible.
The engineering standard follows from that: assurance-grade data, traceable to source, attributable to a person, and able to survive scrutiny years after the fact.
The role You own the engineering function. The services, the architecture, the security model, the production behaviour, and the engineers who build it.
This is hands-on. You write code, you review it, and you raise the standard of a team that is capable but early in its career. Roughly two-thirds engineering, one-third leadership, shifting as the function scales.
It suits someone entrepreneurial — comfortable making decisions without complete information, moving at the pace a platform company at this stage demands, and taking ownership of outcomes rather than tickets. If you need a defined remit handed to you, this will frustrate you.
What you will own Engineering leadership Delivery for the full platform: scope, sequencing, quality, production outcomes A distributed engineering team — hiring, technical direction, code review standards, performance Architectural authority, and the defence of those trade-offs to product, security and the executive team Translating regulatory and customer commitments into engineering constraints before they become rework The practices this stage requires: design review, incident response, on-call, release discipline Backend and platform Scalable backend services in Node.js (Type Script); REST APIs and microservices across the platform End-to-end ownership: design → implementation → deployment → monitoring Architectural risk, edge cases and scalability constraints identified early Clean architecture, SOLID principles, long-term maintainability Security, access control and auditability Authentication and authorisation architecture (JWT, OAuth2, RBAC) Permission models and data access controls for multi-tenant enterprise and sovereign deployments Immutable audit logging and evidence lineage — every action logged, attributable, tamper-evident Data residency and segregation across UK, EU and GCC jurisdictions Control evidence for ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus surveillance
Data, integrations and performance Postgre SQL schema, query and index design at scale Redis for caching, queues and performance External service integration with reliability and traceability Real-time features where applicable (Socket.io) and S3-compatible object storage
Reliability and platform operations Docker-based containerisation and environment parity CI/CD pipeline ownership (Git Hub Actions or similar) Cloud deployment, GCP-first (GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, IAM, Cloud Storage); on-premises and VPC patterns for sovereign customers Monitoring, logging, alerting, error tracking Safe deployments, high availability, predictable releases
Required10+ years professional backend engineering, including at least 3 years leading engineers Strong Node.js and Type Script; production experience with Express, Fastify or Nest JSDeep Postgre SQL; hands-on Redis Microservices and distributed systems in production Docker and CI/CD ownership Strong grasp of API security, authentication and RBACDemonstrable ownership of production systems and of the people building them Comfortable making architectural decisions and defending the trade-offs to non-engineers Fluent professional English — you will present to enterprise customers, auditors and partners directly
This role is not suitable for engineers without prior team leadership, or for managers who no longer write code.
Nice to have Enterprise Saa S, compliance, or regulated-industry platforms Exposure to audit, GRC or financial services systems Arabic, in addition to English
What we offer Ownership of infrastructure that enterprises and sovereign entities depend on to satisfy regulators Compensation weighted towards equity — a significant allocation for the right candidate, alongside cash. We are building owners, not staffing a function Fully remote High ownership, low bureaucracy — architectural decisions are made by the people building the system
