Job description
Design upholstery cover patterns and cutting plans based on sketches, customer descriptions, or blueprints. Discuss upholstery fabrics, colors, and styles with customers, and provide cost estimates.
Draw cutting lines on material following patterns, templates, sketches, or blueprints, using chalk, pencils, paint, or other methods. Examine furniture frames, upholstery, springs, and webbing to locate defects.
Fit, install, and secure material on frames using hand tools, power tools, glue, cement, and/or staples. Interweave and fasten strips of webbing to the backs and undersides of furniture using small hand tools and fasteners.
Make, repair, and/or replace automobile upholstery and convertible and vinyl tops, using knowledge of fabric and upholstery methods.
Make, restore, and/or create custom upholstered furniture using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods.
Measure and cut new covering materials using patterns and measuring and cutting instruments, following sketches and design specifications.
Operate sewing machines or sew upholstery by hand to seam cushions and join various sections of covering material.
Read work orders, and apply knowledge and experience with materials in order to determine types and amounts of materials required to cover work pieces.
Remove covering, webbing, padding, and/or defective springs from work pieces using hand tools such as hammers.
Sew rips or tears in material, or create tufting, using needles and thread.
Anticipate that all activities and purchased equipment and belongings may impact the environment. Participate in all activities organized to protect biological diversity and share individual responsibilities to increase environmental knowledge and carry out necessary training.
Ensure minimum consumption of currently used materials and equipment (paper, printed materials, etc.).
Implement necessary warnings and departmental training to save energy within the facility. Continue implementing decisions made for energy conservation. Assess the environmental effects and energy efficiency of purchased equipment.
Fulfill responsibilities to properly eliminate and collect waste, reduce environmental pollution, and minimize harmful effects on the environment.
Carry out all responsibilities related to the quality management systems implemented at the facility.
Perform all other duties assigned by managers and hotel management not specified in the job description.
Qualifications
Education: At least a primary school or vocational diploma.
Experience: Able to learn the job within a few months and enhance knowledge within one year.
Foreign language: Not expected.
Courses and training: Not expected.
Computer literacy: Not required.
Skills: Expected to know the standard work routines and general rules. Required to possess certification for the job, if necessary. Expected to use basic tools and devices related to the job.
