Reports to: Director, USAID Egyptian Pioneers Study Abroad
Purpose: The job holder will work closely with The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) team in Cairo and Family Health International (FHI) 360 project team based in Washington DC. He/she will be responsible for the overall quality of pre-departure preparation and ensuring that the study abroad program meets the student/scholars’ objectives. After the scholars/students/trainees have been selected by the AUC technical team: Under the guidance of the study abroad director, liaise closely with scholars/students selected for United States (US) based to ensure study abroad objectives are clearly defined, coordinate with FHI 360 US to ensure the study abroad program meets those objectives and work to ensure clear communication to address any differences in expectations and proposed plans. In addition, He/she will supervise and assist with security checks and police clearance of all scholars, as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Support the director in managing the study abroad component for Result 1 and Result 3 through all phases of the projects’ lifecycles
- Support the study abroad director in program management, team management and operational procedures, and serve as a backup, when necessary
- In collaboration with the study abroad director, engage with FHI 360 on at least bi-monthly basis on all program matters to ensure a seamless implementation of activities
- Manage pre-departure orientation programs
- Monitor and lead reporting on challenges and lessons learned, initiate documentation of best practices brought to scale and document results of evaluation and training
- Collaborate with stakeholders to assess and refine program strategies and implement resulting programmatic activities
- Review program information materials to be used by scholars in Arabic and English. These materials may include information about the program, study requirements etc. and ensuring that the scholars are provided detailed information about what is expected of them during and after the trainings in the United States of America and in Egypt
- Oversee, train and coach both the study abroad officer and the TEAMS monitoring and evaluation officer and ensure program deliverables are achieved
- Ensure prompt submission of requirements to the Finance officer to guarantee that all financial reporting is completed in an effective, systematic, and timely manner
- Review students and short-term scholars’ data and Result 3 packages for USAID submission and verification on USAID TEAMS
- Serve as the Result 2/Verifier on USAID TEAMS
- Comply with applicable subaward agreement, sponsor requirements and following all AUC policies and procedures
- Perform other duties and functions as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in any field
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 to 12 years of experience, including seven years in scholarships or capacity building training
- Candidates with previous experience of working on USAID scholarship administration/study abroad programs would be preferred for this job
- Prior experience working with International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs)/ universities and government organizations is preferred
- Must be an Egyptian national
Skills:
- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic
- Ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal supervision and work closely with the teams in Egypt and Washington, DC
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to focus on all areas of a task (detail-oriented)
- Good judgment and the ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with people at all levels of the government and the private sector partners
- Strong team player skills and resourcefulness
- Knowledge of Microsoft products such as MS NT and MS Office
Working Conditions:
- Flexible working hours
- Work as assigned on any AUC or grant program location
- The position will be based in Cairo and work out of the AUC Tahrir Square Campus
