HR Generalist (Solo Practitioner)

  • We are looking for an experienced, hands-on HR Generalist to take ownership of our Human Resources function. 
  • As a company of roughly 50 employees with a dedicated labor workforce, we need a "Department of One" who can handle everything from recruitment and payroll to safety compliance and employee relations.
  • This is not a "behind the desk" role. You will be the primary support system for our workforce, ensuring our operations run smoothly, safely, and legally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Department Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for all HR-related matters. Build and refine HR policies that make sense for a labor-intensive environment.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Manage the full hiring cycle for skilled labor and general staff. specific focus on finding reliable workers, conducting practical interviews, and managing rapid onboarding.
  • Employee Relations: Act as a fair and approachable mediator for staff. Resolve conflicts quickly on the floor/site and maintain a culture of respect and accountability.
  • Payroll & Timekeeping: Oversee time-and-attendance tracking (managing shifts, overtime, and breaks) and ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Safety & Compliance: Partner with operations to ensure strict adherence to safety regulations (OSHA, etc.). Handle workers' compensation claims and injury reporting if they occur.
  • Benefits Administration: Manage open enrollment and answer employee questions regarding benefits and pay.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience.Industry Background: Must have experience supporting a blue-collar, manufacturing, construction, or logistics workforce. (We are looking for someone who understands the nuances of hourly/labor work vs. corporate salaried work).Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of labor laws, wage/hour regulations, and safety compliance.Personality: Thick-skinned, empathetic, and approachable.
