Senior Software Project Manager
Reports To:Head of Delivery & Operations Role Purpose:The Software Project Manager is responsible for leading the successful planning, execution, governance, and delivery of software development projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, within budget, and in alignment with approved business cases and profitability targets. The role serves as the primary point of accountability for project delivery, coordinating cross-functional teams including Software Development, Architecture, Quality Assurance, Dev Ops, Cybersecurity, Business Analysis, and Product Management to deliver high-quality software solutions. The Software Project Manager is expected to drive Agile delivery excellence, enforce project governance and CMMI standards, optimize the use of project management tools such as Jira and Microsoft Project, and maintain financial discipline throughout the project lifecycle. Success in this role is measured by predictable delivery, customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and sustainable project profitability. Key Responsibilities:1. Project Delivery & Agile Leadership:Lead end-to-end software delivery across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or Hybrid methodologies. Drive sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups to maximize delivery predictability and team productivity. Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within scope, budget, and agreed quality standards. Identify, manage, and proactively resolve delivery risks, dependencies, technical challenges, and scope changes. Drive continuous delivery and continuous improvement practices across all project teams.2. Project Planning & Governance:Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, delivery roadmaps, milestone schedules, and resource plans using Microsoft Project and Jira. Establish project governance structures, reporting mechanisms, communication plans, and decision-making frameworks. Configure and maintain Jira projects, workflows, dashboards, roadmaps, and reporting to provide real-time visibility into project performance. Ensure accurate effort estimation, capacity planning, resource allocation, and schedule forecasting. Monitor project progress against approved baselines and implement corrective actions when variances occur.3. Financial Management & Commercial Accountability:Own the financial performance of assigned projects, ensuring alignment with approved business cases and profitability objectives. Monitor project budgets, resource utilization, delivery costs, revenue recognition, and gross margin throughout the project lifecycle. Identify financial risks early and implement mitigation strategies to protect project profitability. Evaluate commercial impacts of scope changes and support contract and change request negotiations. Collaborate with Sales, Finance, and Delivery leadership to maximize project return on investment (ROI).4. Delivery Excellence & Process Compliance:Ensure compliance with United Delta Delivery Operating System (UD-DOS), CMMI standards, and organizational project governance policies. Integrate Project Planning, Risk Management, Quality Assurance, Configuration Management, and Change Management into daily project execution. Maintain complete project documentation, traceability, and audit readiness. Lead continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to organizational process maturity. Promote standardization, reusable assets, and best practices across delivery teams.5. Stakeholder Management & Executive Reporting:Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, executive sponsors, and internal stakeholders. Provide accurate and timely executive reporting covering project health, milestones, financial performance, risks, issues, and mitigation plans. Facilitate Steering Committee meetings and executive governance sessions. Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure proactive communication throughout the project lifecycle. Support strategic decision-making through data-driven reporting and recommendations.6. Leadership & Team Management:Lead and mentor multidisciplinary software delivery teams. Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. Coordinate activities across Software Development, Solution Architecture, Dev Ops, QA, Business Analysis, Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity teams. Ensure effective knowledge transfer, documentation, succession planning, and business continuity. Support team capability development through coaching and performance feedback. Qualifications & Experience:Education:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional Certifications (Preferred):PMP (Project Management Professional) PMI-ACPCertified Scrum Master (CSM) SAFe Agilist or SAFe Scrum Master ITIL Foundation Experience:Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in software development and project management. At least 5 years managing large-scale enterprise software implementation projects. Proven experience managing Agile software delivery teams. Strong understanding of software engineering principles, SDLC methodologies, and enterprise solution architecture. Advanced proficiency with Jira (Advanced Roadmaps, Dashboards, Workflow Configuration) and Microsoft Project. Experience managing project financials, business cases, budgets, forecasting, and profitability. Working knowledge of CMMI and experience supporting audits or process appraisals. Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Fluent in written and spoken English.
