The Senior Structural Design Engineer leads the structural design process for complex projects, delivering technical expertise and ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards. The role requires a strong background in structural analysis and design, proficiency in design software, and experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Review and approve structural designs, drawings, and calculations submitted by external design consultants. Provide technical input during land acquisition and feasibility stages, including preliminary assessments of structural systems and cost implications. Collaborate closely with architects, MEP engineers, and project managers to ensure structural designs align with overall project objectives, cost targets, and timelines. Evaluate and recommend structural systems that are cost-effective, buildable, and compliant with local codes. Participate in design coordination meetings, ensuring structural elements are well integrated with other disciplines. Review contractor submittals (shop drawings, method statements, material approvals) and support technical approvals. Attend site inspections and structural audits to verify construction quality and adherence to design intent. Provide technical support during tendering, including review of BOQs and structural specifications. Assist in value engineering exercises to optimize design without compromising safety or functionality. Monitor consultants and contractors for compliance with contract requirements and quality standards.
Key Accountabilities
Ensure all design deliverables meet applicable codes, project specifications, and quality standards before construction begins. Support development decisions by delivering accurate and timely structural feasibility reports that inform project go/no-go outcomes. Facilitate multidisciplinary coordination to ensure structural design does not cause delays, cost overruns, or rework in later stages. Deliver optimized structural solutions that meet safety and code compliance while reducing material and construction costs. Prevent design clashes and coordination issues by proactively identifying and resolving interface challenges early in the design process. Minimize construction errors and delays by ensuring submittals align with design intent and technical standards. Achieve cost savings by proposing alternate structural solutions that maintain quality and performance requirements.
