Job purpose:We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Backup & Storage Specialist to design, implement, manage, and continuously optimize the enterprise backup, recovery, and storage infrastructure across on-premises (VMware, Nutanix) and cloud (AWS, GCP) environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in Veeam backup solutions and AWS, GCP platforms, with proven leadership in designing, implementing, and optimizing data protection and storage systems. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity, security, and availability of all corporate data, aligning with the strict data protection and business continuity requirements of the fintech industry in KSA, UAE and EGY, while effectively translating business objectives into robust and efficient backup and storage operations.
Responsibilities:Strategic Design & Architecture: Lead the design, implementation, and continuous optimization of the enterprise backup and storage strategy, making key technology decisions (e.g., Veeam, cloud tiering) to meet defined RTO/RPO objectives and align with business continuity goals. End-to-End Data Protection Management: Own the overall health, performance, and effectiveness of the backup ecosystem, including Veeam Backup & Replication, tape libraries, and AWS-based repositories, ensuring data integrity and availability across all environments. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Leadership: Plan, lead, and execute disaster recovery drills and real recovery operations to guarantee rapid restoration of critical systems, DBMS (MSSQL, Postgre SQL, Mongo DB, MYSQL), Filesharing, K8s distributions (RKE, EKS) and business applications. Complex Issue Resolution & Escalation: Serve as the final escalation point for major backup or recovery incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing sustainable corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Cost & Capacity Optimization: Manage capacity planning, data lifecycle management, and budgeting for on-prem and cloud storage, optimizing resource utilization, AWS cloud costs, and tape media procurement. Compliance & Security Governance: Ensure adherence to corporate data security policies, audit requirements, and regulatory compliance specific to the fintech sector in KSA, including data sovereignty and retention mandates. Automation & Process Improvement: Develop and maintain automation scripts, monitoring, and orchestration workflows to streamline backup operations, enhance system integration, and reduce manual intervention for higher operational efficiency.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.4-5 years hands-on experience in designing and managing enterprise backup and storage environments. Expert-level certification in Veeam (VMCE) or equivalent proven experience. Deep, practical experience with Veeam Backup & Replication in a large-scale environment, including deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting. Proven expertise in managing backup for Nutanix AHV hypervisors. Strong hands-on experience integrating backup solutions with AWS, GCP (e.g., S3, Glacier, EC2 snapshots, RDS, Dynamo DB, EFS and Veeam Cloud Tier). Demonstrable experience managing and troubleshooting backups for MSSQL, Postgre SQL, Mongo DB, and MySQL databases, including application-aware processing and transaction log handling. Excellent scripting skills (e.g., Power Shell, Python) for automation. Strong troubleshooting skills for network-related backup issues Able to provide backup evidence for compliance and governance.
