Job Title: Trunker

Job Purpose: In the most efficient, professional, and cost productive manner, sort, load/unload, deliver and pick up all shipments within the service centers designated by the Company within prescribed quality levels of service.

1) Accountabilities

a) Internal:

Key activities

  • Always act as an ambassador for DHL and attend to customer needs in a professional, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Always Show patience, courteousness, and respect to all road users.
  • Aways wear required DHL uniform when on duty.
  • Without delay, deliver and pick up all shipments.
  • Ensure that a high level of professional rapport is developed and maintained with all service centres.
  • Maintain proactive work processes to ensure teamwork, shuttle procedures and overall base performance is achieved.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is always clean and tidy thereby portraying the image of a market leader and drive carefully and safely adhering to the traffic regulations of the country and ensuring safety of both self and others on the road.
  • Perform the duties and requirements of the role in accordance with employment terms and conditions.
  • Provide immediate feedback to Team Leader or Supervisor on service, vehicle, or equipment issues.
  • Maintain a professional contact on the two-way.
  • Meet the expectations of delivery and pick up between service centres.
  • Assist with a range of Operations tasks as required.

Overall goals / Typical Measures:

  • Any current KPIs as per Motive8 targets
  • On time transit KPIs to meet customer expectations
  • Always act in accordance with DHL’s code of conduct, values, policies, procedures, and position description.
  • Checkpoint scanning in accordance with DHL standards.
  • Truckers are required to be neatly groomed and well presented during working hours or at any time when wearing the DHL uniform.
  • PU and delivery as per Standards
  • Load and unload shuttles/shipments and sort freight in accordance with DHL procedures

b) Process:

Key activities:

  • Provide suggestions to improve operation efficiencies or business needs.
  • Take responsibility for the care and maintenance of allocated vehicle.
  • Maintain a proactive and careful attitude toward security of facility, freight, and personnel.
  • Provide accurate and complete paperwork for shipments movement.
  • Handle all freight with the maximum possible care.
  • Perform any other associated tasks as reasonably required within the scope of the role

Overall goals / Typical measures

  • Vehicle maintenance as per DHL standards.
  • SAM and UNDEL reports.
  • Good Transportation report.
  • All paperwork completed to DHL standards.
  • Transportation Report for all movements.

c) Occupational Health & Safety:

Key Activities:

  • Abide by DHL OHS policies, procedures, and training at all times.
  • Ensure forms of mechanical aid provided for manual handling (e.g. courier trolleys) are used to reduce the likelihood of manual handling injuries
  • Report any personal, vehicle or traffic incident/ damage to the Team Leader or Operations Supervisor immediately.
  • Drive in a responsible, lawful, and courteous manner.

Overall goals /Typical measures:

  • Responsible driving record.
  • Trucker responsible for not driving under influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • C Track Reports

d) People Management:

Key Activities:

  • This role has no direct reports or personnel authority. Nevertheless he/she can influence others to enable improvement and change within the organization.
  • It is expected that the individual will work positively in a team environment

3) Experience:

Essential:

  • Clean, open and current driver’s license in the relevant country with more than one year of driving experience
  • Physical capacity to perform the inherent requirements of the role including moving, lifting, carrying, loading/unloading various shaped/weight objects regularly.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal style
  • Excellent personal presentation, grooming and hygiene.
  • Good clear command of the English language
  • Reasonable knowledge of local metro areas
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including ability to prioritise workload.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service experience and focus.
  • Knowledge of safe manual handling practices/OHS issues.
  • Ability to effectively contribute as a team member as part of a busy team.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure in a fast paced, time sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative/judgement to solve job related issues.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience in following procedures.
  • Sound educational background, with basic knowledge of the Service Industry

Desirable: Previous courier experience

Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's degree.
