JOB PURPOSE Oversee all General Ledger accounts, set up new product accounting schemes in the system, and work closely with the bank’s departments on any accounting-related tasks, ensuring strict adherence to banking regulations, internal policies, and accounting standards, maintaining the financial integrity and regulatory compliance of the bank’s operations.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Accounting cycles for new products Time Split: 25% Setting accounting cycles for new bank products, systems, processes & complex transactions as per the Central Bank requirements and relevant accounting standards (e.g., EAS, IFRS), ensuring robust financial controls and accurate reporting. Involved in the testing process to ensure the right accounting schema is set up in the UAT environment before moving it to production, collaborating closely with IT and product development teams. 2. Daily verification Time Split: 50% Issuing the bank’s daily trial balance and reviewing it for accuracy and completeness. Reconcile and review the daily End-of-Day (EOD) reports across all domains to ensure that the accounting schemas are reflected correctly, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly. Maintain compliance with relevant accounting standards and banking regulations, ensuring all financial activities are recorded and reported in accordance with regulatory frameworks. Raising any defects with the IT department and working closely with them to ensure their timely fixation, contributing to the continuous improvement of financial systems. Handle any queries from business units related to accounting topics, providing expert guidance and support to facilitate smooth operations. Have oversight of the reconciliations team and support them in investigating unusual unreconciled items, ensuring timely resolution and accurate financial positions. 3. Other functions support Time Split: 10% Reply to the operation teams’ requests regarding corrective entries, ensuring proper authorization and documentation. Providing technical accounting support to IT Teams & Data Team, assisting in the development and implementation of financial systems and data reporting initiatives. Providing accounting support to the External Auditors, facilitating the audit process, and ensuring transparency and accuracy of financial information. Contribute to the development and implementation of financial risk management frameworks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Qualifications and Education
Essential Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting or Finance. Advanced knowledge of accounting principles (conceptual framework, IFRS/EAS) and financial concepts, with a deep understanding of their application within the banking sector. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and advanced banking accounting software. knowledgeable of banking regulations, compliance frameworks, and financial reporting requirements for financial institutions. Preferred Accounting Certification (ACCA, ESAA, CPA, and CMA) is preferred Work Experience Minimum 7 years’ experience as an accountant or in a similar role, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity within a commercial bank or financial institution.
