Lab Supervisor

  • Providing a helpful and timely reactive service to the requests of academic staff regarding preparation for laboratory practical sessions and research. 
  • Responding to student requests for assistance in practical sessions and, where appropriate, with projects and equipment support, maintaining a professional approach to support students and promoting development. 
  • The preparation and maintenance of equipment for laboratory work, including set-up, dismantling and resetting of experimental spaces as necessary. 
  • Developing plans and needed reports for lab renovations.
  • Preparing the operating budget of the assigned labs.
  • Ensuring resources are suitably available and timetabled for all research and teaching purposes.
  • Monitoring lab budget and presenting reports to Head of Engineering Operations of supplies as required and ensuring that stock levels are maintained, particularly for student project requirements.
  • Using appropriate purchasing and supplier selection techniques in line with university policy.
  • Adhering to the health & safety codes of practice and liaising with the building Facilities Management whenever necessary.
  • Adhering and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ensuring that the labs are safely maintained, all working areas are safe and that staff and students are fully trained to do their job safely. 
  • Operating and maintaining lab machinery to ensure safe operation in accordance with safe lab practices.
  • Maintaining records for labs and ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality regulations. 

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a reputable university, with a minimum grade of Good.3-5 years of practical experience in laboratory or workshop environments, preferably in an academic or industrial setting.Proficiency in engineering drawing software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.Practical experience with operating 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines is a plus. Practical experience with other workshop equipment like welding, metalwork, and woodwork.Experience with general laboratory and workshop practices, particularly in mechanical engineering, thermofluids, materials testing, and fabrication.Good command of the English language.
