Project Officer, the Cairo Center for Learning and Excellence on Adaptation and Resilience, the Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability, Grant Position

Reports to: Project Senior Director


Purpose: Housed under The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability (CARES). The Cairo Center for Learning and Excellence on Adaptation and Resilience’s (CCLEAR) main goal is to enhance African practitioners' and leaders' knowledge and leadership in addressing climate change's most pressing challenges by fostering expertise in adaptation and resilience. This will be accomplished by building a cadre of resilience and adaptation-trained African practitioners and leaders to address the greatest challenges of climate change by offering state-of-the-art teaching, learning, and knowledge sharing among experts and stakeholders. The job holder of this position will assist the project Senior Director in the planning and implementation of the CCLEAR day to day project activities.


Responsibilities:


● Carry out necessary research on climate change, sustainable development and adaptation and resilience in the sectors of health, water resources management, agriculture and food security

● Conduct capacity needs assessment studies and surveys and accordingly develop capacity development plans

● Assist in developing partnerships and promoting networks with donors and various stakeholders

● Support to initiate and improve communication platform of best practice of climate change adaptation and resilience amongst African stakeholders

● Document and disseminate capacity development lessons learned from activities of climate change program and disseminate widely through online platforms

● Design climate change awareness and education programs and assist in capacity building curricula development

● Communicate with project partners to achieve projects’ deliverables according to the planned timeline

● Follow up on the project’s progress and submit technical progress reports to the granter in a timely manner

● Keep updated records, write regular technical reports and briefs, and assist in developing a proper monitoring & evaluation process for the project

● Develop the project’s dissemination and marketing plans and their implementation

● Travel inside or outside Egypt to carry out project activities and attend meetings and training workshops as required

● Perform any other related duties as required.


Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

● Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, agriculture or other related fields

Master’s of science in environmental engineering, sustainable development or a related field is an asset

Experience:

● Preferably seven years of experience in the field of environmental engineering/sustainable development/ project management

Previous experience of implementing donor-funded programs

Previous experience liaising with institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government counterparts, donors, and other key project stakeholders

Experience in developing curricula and capacity building programs in the field of climate change

Skills:

● Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently

● Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with fluency in English

● Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with fluency in French is preferable

● Adaptability, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving

Working Conditions:

● Full time from Sundays to Thursdays

● 20% travel, in Egypt and African countries
