Cyber Security Engineer

Job Summary: The Cyber Security Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining security measures that protect an organization’s computer networks, systems, and data. The role involves continuous monitoring of security systems, detecting vulnerabilities, responding to incidents, and ensuring compliance with security standards and regulations.


  • Key Responsibilities:
  •  Design, implement, and maintain secure systems and networks to protect against cyber threats and unauthorized access.
  • Monitor network traffic and systems for suspicious activity, responding to potential threats in real time.
     
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk assessments to identify and address security weaknesses.
  • Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures to safeguard systems and data.
  • Implement security solutions such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), anti-virus software, encryption, and endpoint protection.
  •  Ensure compliance with industry security standards and regulations such as ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSS.
  • Respond to and investigate security incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing solutions to prevent future breaches.
  • Perform regular audits of security systems, identifying gaps and recommending improvements.
  • Maintain and update security infrastructure, applying patches and updates as necessary.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle (DevSecOps).
  • Provide security training and guidance to employees, raising awareness of potential threats and secure practices.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors and external auditors to assess security posture and implement recommendations.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats, technologies, and industry trends.
     

Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.At least 5 years of experience as a Cyber Security Engineer or in a similar role.Strong knowledge of security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Controls), and compliance requirements.Experience with security technologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), endpoint protection, and encryption tools.Proficiency in penetration testing, vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, Metasploit), and network security technologies.Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SSL) and secure architecture design.Experience with security incident response and forensic analysis tools.Preferred Qualifications:Relevant security certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), or CompTIA Security+.Familiarity with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and secure configurations.Knowledge of secure coding practices and security in DevOps (DevSecOps).Experience with encryption protocols (e.g., SSL/TLS, IPsec), and security tools like Splunk, Wireshark, and Palo Alto Firewalls.Skills & Competencies:Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain security concepts to non-technical staff.Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a dynamic environment.Detail-oriented and proactive in identifying security risks and addressing them.Ability to respond calmly and effectively to security incidents and crises.
