Role Description The OPI/VRI Medical Interpreter English–Italian is responsible for facilitating accurate and confidential communication between English-speaking and Italian-speaking patients and healthcare professionals via over-the-phone and video remote interpreting platforms. In this full-time remote role, the interpreter will provide real-time medical interpretation, ensuring clarity of medical information, consent, diagnoses, and treatment instructions. Daily tasks include performing consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, accurately conveying tone and intent, and adhering to medical and ethical standards. The interpreter will manage sessions efficiently, maintain detailed attention to medical terminology, follow organizational procedures, and uphold strict confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Collaboration with scheduling teams and adherence to quality assurance guidelines are integral to the role. Qualifications Strong medical interpretation skills, including Medical Interpretation and Medical Terminology, with the ability to work accurately in clinical and hospital settings. Proficiency in Interpreting and Simultaneous Interpretation, ensuring clear, neutral, and culturally appropriate communication between English and Italian speakers. Experience with Translation tasks related to medical and healthcare content, maintaining consistency and accuracy of terminology. Native or near-native fluency in both English and Italian, with excellent listening, speaking, and comprehension skills. Knowledge of medical ethics, confidentiality standards (e.g., HIPAA or equivalent), and professional interpreter codes of conduct. Comfort with remote work, including reliable internet connection, familiarity with OPI/VRI platforms, and basic technical troubleshooting skills. Previous experience in medical or healthcare interpreting, preferably in remote environments; relevant certifications or training in medical interpreting are a strong plus. Ability to remain calm under pressure, manage sensitive conversations, and maintain impartiality and professionalism at all times.
