R&D Design Engineer

Job Description:

As an R&D Product Development Engineer, you will contribute to a dynamic team responsible for the design, development, maintaining and launch of home appliance product ranges, including Electric Storage Water Heaters, Towel Dryers, and Domestic Water Heater Heat Pumps. Your role is to ensure that each new product meets key criteria for performance, safety, cost-efficiency, and environmental compliance, while staying aligned with both market demands and the company’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

 

New Product Design & Development

  • Design and develop new products, including integration of mechanical, thermal, and electrical subsystems.
  • Create 3D models, technical drawings, and product documentation using CAD software – PTC Creo
  • Evaluate new product concepts through prototyping and initial validation testing.
  • Collaborate with local and international cross-functional teams (Project Management, Marketing, Industrialization, Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain, Production etc.) from concept to launch.
  • Select appropriate materials and components to meet product requirements based on emerging trends and regulations (e.g., ERP, REACH, ROHS).
  • Prepare technical samples for laboratory testing, certification and marketing/customer needs for approval.

Engineering Changes:

You will be responsible for managing engineering change requests (ECRs) throughout the product lifecycle. This includes:

  • Co-ordination for launching new product variants on production lines.
  • Analyzing feedback from production, quality, and the field to identify improvement opportunities or solve potential market feedback.
  • Proposing, validating, and implementing design modifications to enhance product reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintaining technical documentation (drawings, specifications, BOMs, work instructions) and ensuring traceability of changes through established change control processes (Engineering Change Management).
  • Coordinating with cross-functional teams to evaluate the impact of changes on production, product cost, suppliers, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage phase out activities of obsolete ranges including stock management.
  • Participate in risk assessments, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA & PFMEA) for the proposed changes.

Industrialization Support

  • Support the transfer of designs to production, including BOM creation, work instructions, small product related tooling, etc...
  • Facilitate operator training for new line implementations.
  • Lead or support pilot production runs (Technical trials or Pre-Mass production runs).
  • Document trial runs by authoring trial reports and manage to get collective approval for production.
