QA/QC Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary

The QA/QC Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for implementing and overseeing the Quality Management System (QMS) for all mechanical components and systems within our infrastructure projects (e.g., water treatment plants, desalination facilities, pumping stations). This role involves hands-on inspection, thorough documentation review, and close collaboration with project teams to ensure compliance with all project specifications, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Testing:

  • Conduct regular site inspections (receiving, in-process, and final) of mechanical equipment, piping, welding, and installations (e.g., pumps, valves, blowers, filtration systems, HVAC).
  • Witness and verify mechanical tests such as hydrostatic testing, pneumatic testing, and equipment alignment.
  • Ensure all testing and inspection equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Develop, review, and approve project-specific Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for mechanical works.
  • Review and approve contractor/supplier documentation, including material test certificates (MTCs), welding procedures (WPS/PQR), and shop drawings.
  • Prepare and manage all QA/QC documentation, including inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), corrective action reports (CARs), and punch lists.
  • Compile final quality dossiers and handover packages for the client.

Compliance & Coordination:

  • Ensure all mechanical works comply with project specifications, approved drawings, and relevant international codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI, AWWA).
  • Monitor the implementation of the project's QMS and ensure adherence to ISO 9001 standards.
  • Liaise with the project team, consultants, contractors, and client representatives on all quality-related matters.
  • Participate in quality audits (internal and external) and site meetings.

Problem Solving:

  • Identify and raise NCRs for any deviations from quality standards.
  • Actively participate in root cause analysis for quality failures and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented and closed out.

Qualifications & ExperienceEducation: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.Experience: 3 to 5 years of dedicated experience as a QA/QC Engineer in a mechanical capacity.Project Experience: Demonstrable experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects. Experience in water treatment, wastewater, desalination, or power/process plants is highly required.Certifications:ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor/Internal Auditor certification is highly desirable.Welding inspection certifications (e.g., CSWIP 3.1 or AWS-CWI) are a significant advantage.Skills & CompetenciesTechnical Knowledge:Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and fabrication/installation processes.In-depth knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME B31.3/B31.1, API, AWWA).Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings (P&IDs, Isometrics, GA drawings).Soft Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality.Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Proficient in MS Office suite.Working ConditionsThis position may require significant time spent on project construction sites.Must be able to work in various environmental conditions and adhere to all site safety procedures.
