Planning and Cost Control Engineer

The Planning and Cost Control Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules and budgets to ensure projects are delivered on time and within financial constraints. This role involves collaborating with project teams to track progress, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning:

  • Develop detailed project schedules using project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) in collaboration with Project Managers.
  • Define project scope, deliverables, and milestones, ensuring alignment with project goals and client requirements.
  • Identify critical paths and dependencies, and continuously update schedules as project conditions change.

Cost Control:

  • Prepare project budgets and forecasts, ensuring all project costs are accounted for.
  • Monitor project expenditures and financial performance against the budget, analyzing variances and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Implement and maintain a cost management system to track and report on project financials.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare regular progress reports for project stakeholders, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs), schedule status, and cost forecasts.
  • Conduct trend analysis and report on project performance, providing insights into potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in project review meetings, providing data-driven recommendations to support decision-making.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks related to schedule delays or cost overruns, and work with project teams to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure that contingency plans are in place to address identified risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate data is captured and reported.
  • Coordinate with procurement and subcontractor teams to track costs associated with materials, labor, and subcontracted work.

Key Skills:Proficiency in project scheduling and cost control software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Excel).Strong analytical skills to interpret data and identify trends.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with project teams and stakeholders.Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.3-5 years of experience in project planning and cost control in a contracting or construction environment.Familiarity with industry standards, practices, and regulations related to project management and construction.Preferred Certifications:PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent.Cost Management Professional (CMP) or similar certification is a plus.
