The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all construction equipment, machinery, and vehicles used in road and bridge construction projects. The role involves ensuring that all equipment is maintained in optimal working condition to minimize downtime, increase operational efficiency, and extend the lifespan of assets. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heavy equipment maintenance, strong leadership skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Planning and Management:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program for all construction equipment, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies.
- Schedule and oversee regular inspections, servicing, and repairs of machinery, vehicles, and tools used in road and bridge construction.
- Ensure that all maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
Equipment Management:
- Monitor the performance and condition of all equipment and machinery to identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance history, repairs, and parts inventory.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and suppliers to ensure timely availability of spare parts and technical support.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the maintenance team, including mechanics, technicians, and support staff.
- Provide training and development opportunities for the maintenance team to ensure they are skilled in the latest maintenance techniques and technologies.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement within the maintenance department.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Prepare and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective management of resources.
- Monitor maintenance expenses and implement strategies to reduce costs without compromising quality or safety.
- Analyze equipment lifecycle costs and make recommendations for equipment replacement or upgrades.
Emergency Response and Problem Solving:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for equipment breakdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to construction projects.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues in a timely manner.
- Work closely with project managers and site supervisors to prioritize maintenance activities based on project needs.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments within the maintenance department.
- Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing safety policies and conducting regular safety training sessions.
Education:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A technical diploma combined with extensive experience may also be considered.Experience:Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within the construction industry.Proven experience with maintenance of road and bridge construction equipment, including graders, pavers, bulldozers, cranes, and excavators.Experience in managing a maintenance team and working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).Skills and Competencies:Strong technical knowledge of construction equipment, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.Excellent leadership and team management skills.Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.Proficiency in using maintenance management software and tools.Good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.Working Conditions:The Maintenance Manager will work primarily on construction sites, with occasional office-based tasks.The role may require extended hours, including weekends and holidays, depending on project demands and equipment emergencies.Frequent travel between construction sites and maintenance facilities is expected.
