About the role This is a Dev Ops Engineer contract opportunity supporting a large-scale fintech VPN infrastructure. The role is focused on configuring, securing, and maintaining client VPN connections, managing CI/CD pipelines, and administering Linux servers and AWS cloud infrastructure. The engineer will work closely with firewall, WAF, and networking configurations, apply Infrastructure as Code practices through Terraform, and provide L3/L4 technical support. The role also involves coordinating with developers and project managers, contributing to sprint planning, and guiding junior team members while ensuring high availability, performance, and security across the infrastructure.
Responsibilities Configure and support client VPN connections in production and test environments Manage CI/CD pipelines for the current codebase and drive improvements Install, administer, tune, patch, and upgrade Linux servers related to VPN infrastructure Manage AWS VPC, EC2, WAF, Cloud Watch, S3, Security Groups, Lambda, Load Balancers (ALB/ELB), and routing Manage firewall rules, IPtable rules, and WAF rules Work with Terraform for configuration management Manage HAProxy servers Work with Site-to-Site VPN, with a preference for Strongswan Implement Dev Ops practices using Git and AWS code repositories Apply strong network troubleshooting skills, including tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark Apply security expertise related to SSL certificates, networking, Linux, and AWSTroubleshoot network-level connectivity issues Provide L3/L4 support for VPN infrastructure Deploy, automate, maintain, and manage AWS cloud-based systems to ensure high availability, performance, scalability, and security Coordinate with system developers and project managers Prepare implementation plans and deploy consistent releases while maintaining SLAsAssist and guide the technical support team in resolving critical issues Continuously monitor, troubleshoot, and fix software and hardware issues Prepare documentation for support and maintenance, and provide on-call support Prepare and update product documentation Contribute to sprint planning and handle client meetings Submit RCA (root cause analysis) reports to management Train and guide junior team members
Must have skills Must have 5 years of experience as and AWS or Azure Dev Ops engineer5 years or more experience in Linux support5 years of experience in configuring (software or hardware) firewalls2 years or more years of experience in maintaining CI/CD pipelines Must have experience of Infractructure as code. Knowledge in Sprint planning and handle client meetings.

Conditions ● Hybrid for candidates based in South Africa and Kenya; fully remote for all other eligible locations. Primary timezone UTC+2, with an 8-hour overlap requirement.● Contractor role: 6-month contract, renewable.● Full-time dedication (40 hours/week).● BYOD (bring your own device) is required.
