Role Description This full-time remote role is for an OPI/VRI Medical Interpreter (English–German) who will provide real-time interpreting services over the phone (OPI) and via video (VRI) for healthcare settings. The interpreter will accurately convey medical information between English- and German-speaking patients and healthcare professionals while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional codes of conduct. Daily tasks include active listening, rendering messages faithfully in both languages, clarifying terminology when needed, and managing communication flow to ensure understanding. The role also involves preparing for assignments by reviewing relevant medical terminology, using approved technology platforms, and documenting sessions in accordance with client and company guidelines. The interpreter will collaborate with internal teams and clients to support service quality and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Strong skills in Medical Interpretation, Interpreting, and Simultaneous Interpretation for English–German communication. Proficiency in Medical Terminology relevant to a range of clinical and hospital settings. Ability to perform accurate Translation of medical documents and patient information when required. Native or near-native fluency in both English and German, with clear, professional communication. Previous experience in medical or healthcare interpreting, ideally in OPI and/or VRI environments. Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality standards (e.g., patient privacy regulations), and impartiality in healthcare contexts. Comfort with remote work technologies, including secure video platforms, headsets, and stable internet connections. Relevant education or certification in interpreting, translation, or language studies; medical interpreting certification is an advantage. Ability to remain calm in urgent medical situations, manage time effectively, and handle consecutive assignments. Willingness to participate in ongoing training, quality assurance processes, and continuous professional development.
