Role Description:
This full-time, Design Engineer – Roads & Highways role is based in Cairo and focuses on the planning and design of road and highway infrastructure projects. The Design Engineer will develop detailed design drawings, models, and specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, safety regulations, and client requirements. Daily responsibilities include performing design calculations, analyzing traffic and geometric data, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams such as structural, geotechnical, and utilities engineers. The role involves reviewing and updating design documents, supporting tender preparation, and responding to technical queries during project execution. The Design Engineer will also participate in design review meetings, collaborate with project managers, and support quality control processes to deliver efficient and sustainable transport solutions.
Qualifications:
Strong foundation in Design Engineering and Product Design applicable to roads and highways; candidates should possess these skills to develop functional and efficient infrastructure solutions. Relevant Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering knowledge to coordinate roadway design with mechanical and electrical systems, such as ITS, lighting, and drainage-related components. Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and related design software used for road geometry, alignments, and corridor modeling; candidates should be comfortable producing detailed drawings and models. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related discipline, with experience in roads and highways design preferred. Knowledge of international and local road design standards, traffic engineering principles, and safety regulations.4+ years of experience is a MUST. Ability to interpret surveys, topographic data, and geotechnical reports, and integrate findings into practical designs. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams on-site. Experience with project documentation, coordination with clients and authorities, and participation in design review and quality assurance processes.
