Graduate OP Geotechnical Engineer
Anglo Gold Ashanti acquired the Sukari gold mine in Egypt through the acquisition of Centamin plc in November 2024. Sukari is owned in partnership with the Egyptian Government.
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialized mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
The Role
We are seeking a motivated Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join our open-pit operations. Working directly under our Senior and Chief Engineers, you will gain hands-on experience in rock mechanics, slope monitoring, and wall stability analysis while helping to ensure a safe, productive mining environment.

The Key Responsibilities
Field Data Collection: Conduct structural mapping of pit walls, log core samples, and collect rock mass quality data (RMR, Q-system, GSI). Slope Monitoring: Assist in operating and analyzing data from slope stability radars, total stations, and piezometers to detect early wall movements. Inspections & Hazards: Perform daily pit tours to identify and report geotechnical hazards like loose rocks, bench face failures, or water seepage. Modeling & Design: Learn to use industry-standard software (e.g., Rocscience, Deswik, Vulcan) to assist with basic slope stability evaluations. Safety & Compliance: Participate in safety meetings and ensure all field operations adhere to site ground control management plans.
The Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Engineering Geology. Experience: 0–2 years of experience (previous mining internships or vacation work is a major plus). Skills: Strong analytical mindset, familiarity with CAD/mining software, and a willingness to learn advanced modelling tools. Attributes: Excellent communication skills, a proactive attitude toward safety, and a desire to work in a dynamic, outdoor site environment. Driver's License: A valid manual driver's license is typically required for site pit driving.
