Field Engineer

Anglo Gold Ashanti acquired the Sukari gold mine in Egypt through the acquisition of Centamin plc in November 2024. Sukari is owned in partnership with the Egyptian Government.

Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.

The Role

The Field Engineer focuses on mobile equipment condition monitoring, preventive maintenance (PM) inspections, and ensuring the continuous operational reliability of the heavy vehicle fleet. Acting as a critical technical bridge between workshop execution, planning, and reliability engineering, this role is responsible for the early detection of potential failures using advanced diagnostic and data-gathering techniques .

The Key Responsibilities

Advanced Fleet Diagnostics: Execute non-running and running equipment checks, including TA1 visual and TA2 performance checks, on diverse heavy earthmoving machinery. OEM Software Navigation: Daily utilization of CAT Electronic Technician (CAT ET) for equipment diagnosis and CAT Service Information System (CAT SIS) for component tracking. Condition Monitoring Operations: Perform practical applications of wear and UT thickness measurements, thermography (thermal imaging), swing deflection measurements, custom tracks services, and ball studs NDT. ERP Data Management: Manage maintenance workflows within SAP, which includes creating detailed operational notifications, building technical parts/labor requirements, and managing backlogs. Oil Analysis Coordination: Extract and process oil samples to facilitate structural lubricant engineering tracking. Operational Adherence: Execute all technical tasks in strict alignment with Standard Work Instructions (SWI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and site environmental/sustainability frameworks.
The Requirements

Education & Certifications: Successful completion of a structured 3-year (36-month) Technical Engineering Apprenticeship or Graduate Technical Advisor program is non-negotiable. Experience: Proven technical experience in condition monitoring and mobile equipment diagnostics. While general heavy equipment experience is required, prior experience handling Excavators and Shovels (diggers) is a huge asset for this current opening. Prior experience working with Mantrac is also highly advantageous. Gold mining experience is not necessary. Knowledge & Skills: Hands-on mastery of executing diagnostics on heavy earthmoving machinery with a specific focus on utilizing CAT machines. Strong working knowledge of CAT ET, CAT SIS, and SAP workflows. Proficiency in advanced condition monitoring tools (thermography, NDT, UT thickness).
