About the Job:
The Bodyshop Electrical & Automation Maintenance Senior Specialist is a key leadership role responsible for the entire electrical infrastructure, control systems, and automation software within the highly automated Automotive Bodyshop (Body-in-White or BIW) assembly area. This position directs the electrical and automation team to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency of all robotic welding, assembly, and transfer equipment, guaranteeing continuous, high-quality production flow while strictly maintaining safety and code compliance.
Responsibilities:
Robotic Automation (PLCs & Programming):Manages the team responsible for the troubleshooting, modification, and optimization of PLC programs (Preferred Siemens) that control the entire robotic assembly process, cell interlocking, and safety functions. Ensures the correct path and application programs for hundreds of welding and material handling robots are maintained and backed up. Electrical Power & Controls:Oversees the maintenance of all high-frequency resistance welding equipment (weld controllers, transformers, and cables), ensuring accurate current and pressure delivery for consistent weld quality. Supervises the maintenance of Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and power distribution systems for all conveyors and heavy machinery. Industrial Networking & Safety:Manages the integrity of industrial communication networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet) linking robots, PLCs, safety scanners, and vision systems. Ensures the proper function of safety PLCs and safety circuits within the robotic cells to maintain a safe working environment. Downtime Management:Leads Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for all electrical and automation-related downtime. Utilizes the CMMS to schedule Preventive Maintenance (PM) and prioritize repairs that maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or mechatronics engineering. Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on Electrical maintenance experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Proficient knowledge in troubleshooting, modifying, and programming PLCs (Siemens S7 is preferred) Ability to read and debug ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams. Advanced experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo drives, and Motor Control Centers (MCCs); includes setup, tuning, and troubleshooting high-voltage industrial motors. Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols like Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, and Device Net for connecting PLCs, HMIs, and field devices. Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent leadership and communication skills to coordinate effectively with Production Management, Mechanical Maintenance, Process Engineers, and external vendors.
