The Quantity Surveyor (QS) Engineer is responsible for managing all costs related to construction projects, from initial estimates through to final accounts. This role involves providing cost-effective solutions, preparing tender documents, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate cost estimates for projects, considering materials, labor, and overheads, and analyzing project specifications to determine financial viability.
- Tender Management: Prepare and issue tender documents, analyze bids, and provide recommendations for contractor selection.
- Contract Administration: Manage contracts, including negotiations, amendments, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Budget Management: Monitor project budgets and expenditures, providing regular reports on financial performance and cost forecasts.
- Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising quality or performance.
- Site Measurements: Conduct site measurements and assessments to ensure accurate quantities are accounted for and manage any discrepancies.
- Change Management: Evaluate and assess changes to project scope, preparing necessary documentation and cost implications for approval.
- Final Accounts: Prepare and negotiate final accounts with clients and contractors, ensuring all costs are accounted for and settled.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a professional body (e.g., RICS, CIQS) is preferred.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Proficiency in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
