Engineering Manager

Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, and optimization of the hospital’s physical infrastructure, equipment, and engineering services. This role ensures that all building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc.) are functioning properly, comply with healthcare regulations, and meet safety standards. The manager coordinates with hospital administration, contractors, and staff to ensure that facilities support the delivery of quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities:

Facility Management:

  • Supervise the maintenance and repair of hospital buildings, infrastructure, and equipment.
  • Ensure that mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and life safety systems are in optimal working condition.
  • Conduct regular inspections of hospital facilities to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Project Management:

  • Oversee renovation, construction, and upgrade projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Work with contractors, engineers, and architects to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Manage capital improvement projects to enhance hospital facilities.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all engineering activities comply with healthcare regulations, environmental health, and safety standards.
  • Implement and maintain preventive maintenance programs for all hospital equipment.
  • Prepare for and respond to inspections by regulatory bodies.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead a team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff.
  • Provide training and development to ensure team members are equipped to handle emerging technologies and facility demands.
  • Manage the department’s budget, including forecasting, planning, and resource allocation.

Equipment Management:

  • Monitor and maintain medical equipment infrastructure to ensure operational readiness.
  • Coordinate with biomedical engineers to ensure that medical equipment meets operational standards.

Energy Management:

  • Develop energy conservation plans to reduce hospital operating costs.
  • Oversee the operation of power generation systems and backup power supply.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with hospital administration, medical staff, and other departments to assess and meet facility needs.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness efforts with other departments to ensure infrastructure readiness.

 Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) or a related field.Proven experience in managing hospital or healthcare facility engineering operations.Strong knowledge of healthcare facility regulations (OSHA, JCAHO, etc.).Project management experience in healthcare settings.Leadership and team management skills.Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.Preferred:Master’s degree in Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
