Receive and systematically file official documentation.
Ensure that teachers are aware of statutory requirements.
Organize curriculum meetings for teachers, parents, and school

Understand how the subject contributes to school priorities and to the overall

Be a role model to colleagues in the department in terms of punctuality,
reliability, diligence, effectiveness, and professionalism.
Review the curriculum adaptation in consultation with teachers as per school
action plan
Develop long term and short term curriculum plans/scope and sequence for
all stages.
Ensure these plans cater for SEND and challenge the more able students.
Keep updated departmental Handbook that include all information,
orientation, and guidelines that teachers should have by the beginning of the
academic year.
Keep an updated HOD file that should include but not limited to school
mission statement, philosophy, and policies; the department improvement
plan; annual plans and lesson plans; scope & Sequence; Job description;
personal professional development plans; workshops attended; class
observation rubric, records, and feedback; samples of assessment materials;
data analysis; minutes of department meetings; action plans, etc.
Ensure every teacher has a file that includes all circulars and memos relevant
to the subject, teaching and assessment materials, plans, job description, etc.
Keep enough samples of students’ work to be used as evidence for students’
progress and attainment inside the class.
Record the minutes of the daily individual meetings with teachers and the
weekly department meetings.
Professional Development
Ensure teachers have appropriate knowledge and understanding of thesubject. Ensure teachers’ planning and use of time and resources are effective. Ensure the effectiveness of differentiation and class management strategies. Ensure consistency within and across all grade levels (teaching materials,plans, assessment, homework assignment, skills, etc.) Ensure coverage of the curriculum and progression of learning. Follow up on how teachers use assessment to inform planning. Regularly and systematically provide guidance to colleagues on content,methodology, and resources. Oversee the assessment and recording of students’ results. Define expectations and targets for each grade level. Work with the support team and SNED expert to ensure IndividualEducation Plans (IEP) are used to target specific needs. Ensure teachers clearly communicate the lesson objectives and the sequenceof teaching and learning to all students.
