Reports to: Director, Academic Advising Center
Purpose: Provides direct academic advising and support to undergraduate students, particularly those who are undeclared, ensuring that they understand The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) academic policies, program requirements, and procedures. The position ensures students register for courses accurately and make informed decisions about their academic paths. The role also includes maintaining accurate advising records, generating reports, and supporting the smooth operation of advising services during registration, orientation, and other key academic periods.
Responsibilities:Academic Advising and Student Guidance: Advise and guide undeclared students on academic requirements, major selection, and course registration in compliance with AUC policies. Provides inclusive advising and appropriate referrals for students with disabilities and other students with academic support needs, in coordination with specific campus offices. Registration and Scheduling Support: Assist newly admitted and ELI students with course selection and registration through Banner. Monitor students’ registration and academic performance to ensure compliance with their intended program paths. Provide coaching and support for students to ensure consistent application of advising policies and high-quality service across team. Student Data Management and Reporting: Prepare statistical reports on student enrollment trends, major intentions, and declaration acceptances. Maintain accurate advising records and data on student progress and declaration status. Orientation and Communication: Design and deliver academic orientation sessions for new students to explain AUC’s academic system, grading, and key regulations. Communicate effectively with students via email and ensure timely and accurate responses. Design and deliver advising communication plans and digital content to promote the Center's services. Administrative Coordination: Support the office’s daily operations, including coordination of advising publications and materials. Monitor office logistics during busy academic periods to ensure efficient service delivery. Serve as the first point of contact for student inquiries and provide accurate information and guidance. Process Improvement: Lead to advising business process improvement, such as the integration of new initiatives and student engagement, to optimize workflow.
Requirements:Minimum Education Requirements:Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, management or any relevant field
Experience:5–8 years of experience in academic advising, registration, or student affairs.
Skills:Student Systems: Proficiency with Banner or other student information systems. Data Management: Ability to prepare statistical and progress reports. Advising Support: Strong understanding of academic requirements and institutional procedures. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Arabic.
