The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) was founded in Qatar in 2015 as a Doha-based independent institution of higher education. The Institute offers MA and PhD programs in two schools: the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy. The Institute adopts a student-centred approach to learning, promotes interdisciplinary research, and uses Arabic as the primary language of instruction, with fluency in English a requirement. Brief Description of Program:
The mission of the Psychology program is to train academics and equip students with a strong research foundation and the professional skills necessary to understand human behavior and to apply new knowledge, tools, and research to the solution of individual, societal, and organizational problems, particularly in Qatar and the Arab region. It also seeks to raise the level and quality of Arab scholarly contributions to the field of psychology and to prepare graduates for the unique challenges associated with today's increasingly global, diverse, and shifting societies.
Job Summary:
The Program of Psychology seeks distinguished applications for a visiting PhD Social Psychology faculty position (open rank) irrespective of the area of specialization in social psychology. The appointment is scheduled for one academic term (Spring of 2024/25).
The successful applicant should be able to teach in a minimum of two core areas within social psychology: social cognition, intergroup behavior, social psychology across-cultures, evolutionary psychology, industrial-organisational psychology, big data and machine learning, advanced research and statistical analyses, social network analyses, as well as more specialized courses in their area of focus. Visiting scholars will be expected to teach two graduate level courses and give one open lecture in their area of specialisation.
Main Responsibilities:
• Teach a minimum of two courses in the program.
• Deliver lectures at the program's seminars.
• Participate in the program's academic activities.
• Supervise Master's and Doctoral theses and/or Capstone projects in the program.
• Supervise students' practical training.
• Conduct research in specialized and related fields.
• Undertake administrative responsibilities and contribute to the needs of the program, school, institute, and community.
• Participate in various committees at the program, school, and institute levels.
Qualification, Experiences and Skills:
Applicants must:
• Hold a doctorate degree in the field of Social Psychology
• Demonstrate a track record of scientific research and publications in their field of specialization and related areas in international peer-reviewed journals that align with their academic rank.
• Have the necessary competence to conduct individual and group research and to offer practical interventions in diverse communities.
• Possess competence and experience in teaching and supervising at the graduate level.
• Exhibit proficiency in the Arabic language.
• Professional experience / working in the Arab world
