Hire Pals is supporting a leading international architecture and engineering consultancy in the recruitment of a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its Building Design team in Cairo.

This is a senior technical leadership position for an accomplished Mechanical Engineer with extensive building-services consultancy experience. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary project delivery, provide technical direction to engineering teams and take ownership of major projects from early design and bidding through detailed design and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and delivery of large-scale building projects across all stages, from concept through detailed design and project delivery.

• Provide technical leadership across mechanical building-services systems, including HVAC and associated mechanical systems.

• Lead and mentor Mechanical Engineers and design teams, providing technical guidance, design reviews and quality oversight.

• Take ownership of key technical decisions during early design stages and maintain overall design leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

• Review and approve engineering calculations, designs, specifications, drawings and technical documentation.

• Ensure designs comply with applicable international codes, local authority requirements and project specifications.

• Act as a senior point of contact for clients on mechanical design and technical matters.

• Coordinate closely with Electrical, Public Health, Fire Fighting, Structural and Architectural disciplines to ensure fully integrated project delivery.

• Lead and participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and coordination meetings.

• Support project planning, resource allocation and management of engineering deliverables.

• Identify technical risks, scope interfaces and potential design issues and drive appropriate solutions.

• Support project bids, technical proposals and early-stage project planning.

• Contribute to value engineering, sustainable design and continuous improvement of engineering solutions.

• Support and mentor junior and senior engineers, developing technical capability across the wider team.

• Contribute to technical standards, design guidelines, engineering methodologies and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

• Provide technical support during construction and respond to site-related design queries where required.

• Support client relationships and contribute to business development activities.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

• Extensive professional experience in Mechanical Building Services design.

• Strong background within an engineering consultancy / multidisciplinary design consultancy.

• Demonstrated experience leading the mechanical design of large and technically complex building projects.

• Advanced knowledge of HVAC design, cooling-load calculations, ductwork and piping systems.

• Strong understanding of applicable building-services codes, standards and statutory authority requirements.

• Proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.

• Strong multidisciplinary coordination and design-management experience.

• Experience managing client relationships and presenting technical solutions to senior stakeholders.

• Understanding of project scope, commercial considerations, risk management and resource planning.

• Knowledge of sustainable building design principles.

• Strong technical review and QA/QC capabilities.

• Excellent written and spoken English.

Technical Knowledge

Experience with relevant engineering and design tools, including:

AutoCAD | Revit | Navisworks | HAP | IES-VE | Pipe & Duct Sizing Tools | ASHRAE Standards
