Founding Engineering Manager (Cairo)

Responsible for building and leading Lato's Egyptian hub.

This role combines engineering leadership, people management, recruitment, operations, and local leadership. Initially, the primary focus will be on building and leading the engineering team. As the Cairo office grows, the role is expected to evolve into the local leader of Lato's Egyptian hub.
 

1. Engineering Lead

Team & Quality

• Hire developers
• Conduct technical interviews
• Perform code reviews
• Ensure technical quality
• Establish and improve development processes
• Mentor and coach junior developers
• Contribute to technical decision-making
• Act as a bridge between the Belgian and Egyptian engineering teams
• Contribute to development when needed

Technical Background

• Senior software engineer or tech lead
• Has previously built a development team
• Has experience mentoring developers
• Can still contribute to development when needed
   

2. People Manager / HR

Team Management

• Conduct 1-on-1 meetings
• Conduct feedback and performance review meetings
• Performance management
• Onboard new employees
• Employee retention
• Support and monitor the personal development of team members
• Build a strong and high-performing team culture

Recruitment

• Screen candidates
• Conduct interviews
• Collaborate with recruiters
• Build a local talent pipeline
   

3. Operations & Office Manager

Office Management

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the office
• Manage relationships with coworking spaces or landlords
• Purchase laptops and equipment
• Manage relationships with local suppliers
• Ensure a professional working environment

Administration

• Primary contact for the accountant
• Primary contact for the lawyer
• Oversee payroll
• Prepare administrative documents
• Support the establishment and operation of the Egyptian entity
   

4. Site Director / Local Leader

Local Responsibility

• First point of contact for the Cairo team
• Local representative of Lato
• Monitor goals and results
• Report to management in Belgium
• Support the scaling of the team
• Help build and grow Lato's long-term presence in Egypt
