The Blasting Operator is responsible for performing surface preparation and cleaning of turbine components using grit blasting and dry ice cleaning techniques. This role ensures components are free from contaminants, coatings, and residues, supporting repair and coating processes. The operator must adhere to strict safety, environmental, and quality standards while maintaining equipment and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform grit blasting on turbine components to remove coatings, corrosion, and contaminants according to established procedures.
- Operate dry ice blasting equipment for precision cleaning of sensitive components without damaging surfaces.
- Ensure proper surface preparation for subsequent coating or repair processes.
- Maintain blasting and cleaning equipment in safe working condition.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations for waste disposal and media handling.
- Work closely with engineers, coating technicians, and quality inspectors to support repair workflows.
- Stay updated on advancements in blasting technologies and best practices.
What You Bring
- Education: Vocational diploma or technical certificate in mechanical, industrial, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in grit blasting, dry ice cleaning, or industrial surface preparation, preferably in a repair or manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of grit blasting and dry ice cleaning processes and equipment.
- Understanding of surface preparation standards (e.g., ISO, SSPC).
- Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of safety and environmental regulations for blasting operations.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to achieve precise surface finishes and maintain quality standards.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in MS Office for documentation.
