The Coordinator, Planning & Scheduling for Wood Cabinets, is the central hub for converting customer orders into executable production plans. This role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and communicating detailed production schedules, managing raw material (lumber, sheet goods, hardware, finishes) and component requirements, and coordinating with sales, procurement, and shop floor supervisors to optimize workflow and meet on-time delivery commitments.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop and maintain a finite production schedule for the cabinet manufacturing shop, considering machine capacity, labor availability, and material lead times.
- Release manufacturing orders and work packets to the shop floor in alignment with the master production schedule (MPS).
- Sequence jobs to maximize efficiency, minimize changeover times, and ensure on-time order fulfillment.
- Monitor daily production progress, identify bottlenecks (e.g., at CNC, edgebanding, assembly, finish lines), and adjust schedules in real-time to address delays or prioritize rush orders.
- Coordinate with Finish/Color Scheduling to batch orders for paint and stain lines efficiently. Material &
Inventory Coordination:
- Review upcoming orders and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to generate material requirements for lumber, plywood, MDF, doors, drawer fronts, hardware, and finishing supplies.
- Work closely with Procurement/Purchasing to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components.
- Monitor inventory levels of critical parts and initiate reorders for standard components.
- Coordinate with the receiving department to verify material arrivals against purchase orders.
Communication & Coordination:
- Serve as the primary liaison between Sales, Design, Manufacturing, and Shipping departments.
- Participate in daily or weekly production meetings to communicate schedule status, upcoming priorities, and potential delays.
- Provide accurate order promise dates and updates to customer service and sales teams.
- Work with engineering on New Product Introduction (NPI) planning and initial production runs.
Data Management & Continuous Improvement:
- Utilize the company’s ERP/MRP system (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, Epicor, custom cabinet software) to manage all planning data.
- Ensure data integrity of orders, BOMs, and routings within the system.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as On-Time Delivery, Schedule Adherence, and Manufacturing Cycle Time.
