The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and maintaining detailed project schedules across multiple phases and disciplines. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that the project progresses on time and within budget by overseeing scheduling, forecasting, reporting, and analyzing key project metrics. The engineer acts as a strategic advisor to the project management team for all planning and time-related issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, update, and maintain integrated project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.
- Lead planning efforts for large-scale infrastructure and building projects from pre-construction to handover.
- Monitor and analyze project progress and provide reports on performance and forecasting.
- Conduct critical path analysis and identify schedule risks, delays, and recovery plans.
- Prepare baseline programs, lookahead schedules, and progress S-curves.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders including design, procurement, engineering, and construction teams.
- Ensure alignment between project schedule and cost control systems.
- Provide delay analysis and support for EOT (Extension of Time) claims and contractual requirements.
- Lead regular planning and coordination meetings and present schedule updates.
- Mentor junior planning engineers and assist in developing team capabilities.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- minimum 10 years of experience in planning for large-scale construction projects (buildings/infrastructure/industrial).
- Expert user of Primavera P6, MS Project, and Excel (including dashboards, charts, and macros).
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, contracts (FIDIC preferred), and project lifecycles.
- Experience with earned value management (EVM), resource and cost loading.
- Proven track record of handling multi-disciplinary projects with complex timelines.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and coordination skills.
