Container Transport Clearance - Team Leader - Alexandria Port

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Clearance Team Leader to oversee and manage a team of clearance coordinators. This role involves supervising various operational duties related to transport clearance activities, ensuring efficient management of container operations, and coordinating the inland transportation process. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in managing teams in a logistics or clearance environment, with a strong focus on container loading/unloading and effective coordination across multiple stages of the transport process.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Supervision:

  • Lead, manage, and motivate a team of clearance coordinators, ensuring effective performance and productivity.
  • Provide guidance, training, and development opportunities to the clearance team members.
  • Set clear performance expectations, monitor progress, and offer constructive feedback to ensure team goals are achieved.

Container Loading & Unloading:

  • Oversee the safe and efficient loading and unloading of containers from storage yards to transportation vehicles, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate the timely and accurate processing of container movements in and out of the storage yards.
  • Ensure containers are properly secured and handled during the loading/unloading process.

Container Allocation:

  • Ensures that Allocating containers from it's appropriate shipping lines based on the Clients' Requirements have been done on time and correctly   
  • Ensure accurate and timely distribution of containers to various shipping Destinations and ensure they are properly documented and tracked throughout the transport process.
  • Collaborate with other Internal Fleet Department and to ensure Trucks availability and proper scheduling.

Inland Transportation Coordination:

  • Monitor and follow up on the inland transportation process for containers, including managing the transport of containers to and from ports.
  • Ensure that containers are transported efficiently and in compliance with all transport regulations and company policies.
  • Resolve any issues or delays related to inland transport promptly to avoid disruptions to operations.

Operational Process Improvement:

  • Continuously assess and improve operational processes for loading, unloading, container allocation, and inland Ports Gate Operations.
  • Work closely with management to implement new strategies or procedures to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
  • Develop and implement best practices to optimize clearance activities and minimize downtime.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to transport clearance activities.
  • Oversee proper documentation for container movements, including customs paperwork, shipping details, and transport schedules.
  • Ensure all operational activities are documented accurately and maintained in line with company and regulatory standards.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Provide regular reports on team performance, operational progress, and any challenges faced to senior management.
  • Facilitate clear communication between clearance coordinators & other departments to ensure smooth operations and timely updates on container status.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).Experience: Proven experience (10+ years) in logistics, clearance, or transportation management, with at least 5 year in a leadership or supervisory role.Skills:Strong leadership and team management skills.In-depth knowledge of container operations, loading/unloading procedures, and inland transportation processes.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.Familiarity with industry regulations and best practices for clearance and transportation operations.Additional Information:Work Environment: This role requires working in a fast-paced, operational setting with a focus on team coordination and container logistics.Shift Flexibility: Depending on operational requirements, there may be a need for shift work or flexibility in working hours.
