The Workshop Section Head is responsible for the efficient use of workshop space, equipment, manpower available to repair and maintain customer’s cars entering the service center. This position also advises and makes recommendations to the service manager in the best interest for the service department improvement. Oversee and manage the workflow of assignments, while working with customers to resolve any complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Assess workload, prepare servicing schedules, and assign most qualified technicians based on their service performance to service tasks within the workshop.
- Maintain proper balance of qualified personnel to service the work; write or direct the recording of workshop repair orders, monitor repair progress of all assigned jobs, obtain commitment for time of completion and perform final inspection on completed work within the facility.
- Ensure that a proper library of manuals, service bulletins, instructions and references for technicians, equipment and service operators is maintained and properly used.
- Ensure that the workshop (layout, flow and process, staffing) are equipped according to manufacturer’s requirements and standards and necessary shop tools and equipment are available and maintained in good order.
- Ensure that workshop work orders are properly handled, and that proper entries concerning man hours or parts and equipment used are accounted for.
- Provide necessary directions, coordination and specialized guidance to technicians and team leaders regarding the repair, maintenance of customer’s cars to ensure the quality of work performed and maintain the performance standards.
- Ensure a safe work environment for all service department employees.
- Make sure the training plan is properly followed by his staff.
- Make recommendations to the service manager for necessary changes in staffing to meet demands of workload, interview applicants and make recruitment recommendations.
- Counsel employees, recommend corrective or/and disciplinary action when appropriate, documents employee performance, and maintains employee records.
