The Senior Procurement Civil Engineer is responsible for managing the procurement process for civil engineering materials, equipment, and services required for construction projects. This role ensures cost-effective purchasing, supplier evaluation, contract negotiation, and compliance with project specifications and industry standards. The position involves close coordination with project managers, site engineers, suppliers, and the finance department to ensure timely and efficient procurement.
Procurement & Sourcing:
- Identify and source civil engineering materials such as concrete, steel, aggregates, formwork, and finishing materials.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with reliable suppliers and subcontractors.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from vendors, ensuring competitive pricing and quality standards.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to achieve cost savings and favorable conditions.
Technical & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure that purchased materials meet the project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with the quality control team to verify material compliance before approval.
- Address any non-conformance issues with suppliers and ensure corrective actions are taken.
Project Coordination:
- Work closely with project managers, site engineers, and procurement teams to align purchases with project schedules.
- Monitor material delivery timelines to prevent project delays.
- Assist in developing procurement strategies to optimize costs and efficiency.
Vendor & Supplier Management:
- Conduct supplier evaluations and audits to ensure performance and reliability.
- Maintain a database of approved vendors and continually seek new potential suppliers.
- Establish and implement long-term procurement agreements with key suppliers.
Cost Control & Reporting:
- Monitor procurement budgets and report any cost variances.
- Prepare and submit procurement reports, including cost analysis, supplier performance, and market trends.
- Assist in value engineering initiatives to optimize material costs without compromising quality.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, contractual obligations, and industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, contracts, supplier communications, and material approvals.
- Collaborate with legal and finance teams to ensure contractual risk management.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in procurement, with at least 5 years in the construction or civil engineering sector.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering materials, construction methodologies, and procurement practices.
- Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Knowledge of local and international procurement regulations and industry standards.
