Job Summary:
The Senior R&D Specialist will lead and oversee the development and optimization of innovative materials, formulations, and products, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals. This role requires advanced expertise in material science, formulation development, and process improvement. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, capable of driving innovation while maintaining high standards of quality and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the formulation and development of new products, such as decorative finishes, cementitious mixtures, and coatings, while optimizing existing products for enhanced performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct advanced research and analysis on raw materials, trends, and technologies to ensure the company remains at the forefront of innovation.
- Design and implement experimental plans, evaluate test results, and prepare comprehensive technical reports.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, marketing, and sales, to support the commercialization of R&D projects.
- Manage and mentor junior R&D staff, providing guidance and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies during product development and testing.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in production and customer applications, offering expert solutions.
- Oversee the procurement of materials, laboratory equipment, and resources to support R&D initiatives.
- Monitor industry advancements and competitor activities to identify opportunities for differentiation and growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in R&D, preferably in the paints, coatings, or construction materials industry.
- Expertise in formulation development, material properties, and performance testing.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in using laboratory instruments and software for data analysis.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and lead teams effectively.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills for presenting findings and collaborating with stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with cementitious materials, polymer chemistry, or water-based and solvent-based systems.
- Familiarity with sustainable materials and eco-friendly formulations.
- Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO) and quality control protocols.
Work Environment:
This position involves working in a laboratory setting with occasional travel to production sites, client locations, or industry events.
