Concrete and Soil Laboratory Technician

Key Responsibilities:

Concrete Testing:

  • Fresh Concrete Slump Test: Perform slump tests to measure the consistency and workability of fresh concrete mixes.
  • Concrete Cubes Preparation: Prepare concrete cube samples for compressive strength testing.
  • Concrete Cube Compressive Strength Test: Conduct compressive strength tests on concrete cubes and record results.

Aggregate Testing:

  • Sieve Analysis for Coarse and Fine Aggregates: Conduct sieve analysis to determine particle size distribution for both coarse and fine aggregates.
  • Fine and Coarse Aggregate Fines Content Test: Measure the amount of fines in both coarse and fine aggregates to ensure compliance with specifications.

Soil and Density Testing:

  • Proctor Test for Compacted Soil: Perform Proctor compaction tests to determine the optimum moisture content and maximum dry density of soil.
  • Sand Cone Test for Field Density: Conduct field density tests using the sand cone method to determine in-place soil compaction.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all tests performed, including the test methods, results, and any observations.
  • Prepare and submit test reports as per industry standards and project specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and laboratory protocols.

Laboratory Maintenance:

  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is calibrated, well-maintained, and in proper working condition.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining laboratory supplies and materials.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure test results meet project specifications.
  • Communicate results and any anomalies to senior laboratory staff or engineers.

Skills and Competencies:Strong knowledge of standard testing methods for construction materials (ASTM, ACI, BS, etc.).Ability to perform tests accurately and efficiently, following detailed procedures and guidelines.Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment (e.g., slump test apparatus, concrete cube machines, sieve shaker, proctor mold, etc.).Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.Excellent organizational skills for record-keeping and reporting.Ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on laboratory equipment.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other technical teams.
