The Estimator is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, prepare accurate estimates for projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics, and provide knowledge of cost and benefits that support profitable business decisions for commercial and government projects up to $20 mil US dollars.   The Estimator must have the ability to perform quantity take-offs from construction documents including plans and specifications, progress drawings, conceptual sketches, change order revisions, addenda and design narratives. The Estimator will work closely with the Senior Pre-construction Manager to obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing information from databases, contractors, suppliers, etc. to utilize in estimates. The Estimator will also review estimate takeoff information for specific disciplines to assess accuracy and suitability for project type and specific project requirements

Key responsibilities & duties

 

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades. 
  • Be technically savvy. Utilizing on-screen take off software is a positive. 
  • Develop and prepare conceptual estimates with minimal subcontractor assistance using limited preliminary design documents/information.  
  • Qualify and level subcontractors' proposals according to project specifics. 
  • Itemize trade specific scopes and prepare bid packages. 
  • Manage bid list and coordinate with trade partners.
  • Continually work with project management and accounting teams on cost management and job costing.
  • Ability to always maintain discretion and confidentiality. 
  • Interact with clients, architects, engineers and Local Jurisdictions to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, costs, etc. 
  • Desired Skills and Experience Relevant Commercial Construction Estimating experience including conceptual budgeting.

  • A Team Player that works well with others and can effectively direct and manage others. 

4 Year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or 10+/- years of experience.Broad experience in estimating commercial construction projects - ideally having been exposed to/estimated projects from the ground up ranging from $500,000 up to $20M US Dollars.Proficient with commercial estimating software such as: MC2, Timberline/SageCRE, QuickBid, On-Screen Takeoff, etc.Dedicated, well organized, able to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.Detailed-oriented with the ability to focus on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.Maintain professionalism when faced with aggressive deadlines with minimal supervision.Excellent leadership, personable, communication, and written skills.Ability to interact, develop, and maintain a positive professional relationship with all levels of personnel.Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning.
