1. Basic Responsibilities:
- Oversee geological and mining activities to ensure efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible extraction of mineral resources.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
2.1 Main Tasks:
- Geological Surveys: Conduct geological surveys and field studies to identify mineral resources, determine their quality and quantity, and assess mining feasibility.
- Resource Estimation: Estimate the size, shape, and grade of mineral deposits using geological models and software.
- Exploration Planning: Plan and execute exploration programs, including drilling, sampling, and geophysical surveys, to gather data on mineral deposits.
- Data Analysis: Analyze geological data to develop accurate geological maps, cross-sections, and reports.
- Mine Design: Collaborate with mining engineers to design efficient and safe mining operations, including pit and underground mine layouts.
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure all mining activities comply with environmental regulations and implement strategies to minimize environmental impact.
- Safety Management: Promote and enforce safety standards and practices to protect workers and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support and expertise to mining operations, troubleshooting issues and optimizing processes.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on geological findings, exploration activities, and mining operations for management and regulatory authorities.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Contribute to sustainability initiatives by implementing best practices in resource management and environmental stewardship.
3. KPIs (Key Performance Indicators):
- Resource Discovery Rate: Measure the success rate of exploration programs in discovering economically viable mineral deposits.
- Accuracy of Resource Estimates: Assess the accuracy of resource estimates compared to actual production results.
- Environmental Compliance: Track compliance with environmental regulations and the effectiveness of environmental management practices.
- Safety Performance: Monitor safety performance metrics, such as incident rates and adherence to safety protocols.
- Operational Efficiency: Evaluate the efficiency and productivity of mining operations, including ore recovery rates and cost control.
4. DYNAMICS / LIAISE:
4.1 Within the Organization:
- Collaborate with mining engineers, environmental specialists, and operations managers to ensure seamless integration of geological and mining activities.
- Work closely with safety officers to implement and enforce safety standards.
4.2 With External Parties:
- Engage with regulatory authorities, environmental agencies, and consultants to ensure compliance with regulations and obtain necessary permits.
- Work with contractors and suppliers to procure services and materials for exploration and mining activities.
5. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, or related field.Minimum of 3-6 years of experience in geological or mining roles.6. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY:Strong understanding of geological principles, mineral exploration techniques, and mining operations.Proficiency in geological modeling software and GIS applications.Knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices in sustainable mining.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret geological data and make informed decisions.Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan and execute exploration programs and mining projects.7.
