Job description

Flairstech is looking for a senior QA Engineer to join our engineering team, reporting to the CTO. You'll own quality across a full procurement platform — a Play/Scala and Spring Boot service tier, a React single-page front end, and asynchronous job-processing workers — testing both individual services and the end-to-end workflows customers depend on. A core part of this role is automated testing built into our CI/CD pipeline, so releases are gated on real, reliable test coverage rather than manual passes. 

This role works closely with Product and Engineering on acceptance criteria for defects, participates in release readiness and UAT, and helps scale testing effort to match the risk of what's being shipped.

What You'll Do

Automation & CI/CD

Build and maintain automated test suites integrated into the CI/CD pipeline so releases are gated on real test coverage.

Own the automated testing strategy across services — expanding coverage over time and reducing reliance on manual regression passes.

Troubleshoot test failures in the pipeline and distinguish real regressions from flaky or environment-specific failures.

Test Design & Execution

Design and execute test plans for new features and defect fixes across the Play/Scala and Spring Boot service tier and the React front end.

Write and maintain API-level test coverage for services (core-api, cxml-api, procure APIs) and validate behavior against MySQL and PostgreSQL-backed data.

Own acceptance criteria and verification for defects, and validate acceptance criteria written by Product for enhancements.

Perform regression testing ahead of releases, scaled to each ticket's assessed risk level (technical, operational, and compliance impact).

Release & Environment Support

Participate in release-readiness review and sign off on testing scope before releases move to UAT and production.

Validate behavior consistently across environments (dev, staging, UAT, production) and flag environment drift that could affect test reliability.

Support UAT coordination with Business Operations, including reviewing release notes and risk scores ahead of each release.

What We're Looking For

Required

5+ years of experience in a QA, SDET, or software testing role, ideally on a production web application.

Strong, hands-on experience building and maintaining automated test suites integrated into a CI/CD pipeline (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar) — this is a key part of the role, not a secondary skill.

Experience testing both backend services (REST APIs) and browser-based front ends.

Comfort writing and validating SQL against relational databases (MySQL and/or PostgreSQL) to verify data-level correctness.

Experience with defect tracking and test-case management tools (e.g., Jira or similar).

Ability to read enough application code (Java, Scala, or similar JVM languages) to understand what a fix actually changed.

Nice to Have

Experience testing services deployed on Kubernetes, or working across containerized environments.

Familiarity with Spring Boot and Play Framework applications specifically.

Experience in a regulated or compliance-driven environment (SOC 2, life sciences, or similar).

Exposure to performance or load testing.
