We are seeking an experienced Lead Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership for bridge and associated civil engineering works within a major infrastructure programme. In this role, you will lead the design development, review and delivery of bridge structures from concept through to construction, ensuring that solutions are safe, buildable, sustainable and compliant with relevant standards, specifications and statutory requirements. You will coordinate multidisciplinary design activities and act as a key technical point of contact for internal teams, consultants, contractors and project stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include managing and reviewing structural and civil design packages, specifications, calculations, drawings, temporary works interfaces and construction methodologies. You will support design assurance, risk management, value engineering, constructability reviews and the resolution of technical issues throughout the project lifecycle. The role will also involve monitoring progress against programme and budget, contributing to procurement and contract documentation, reviewing technical submissions, and providing engineering advice during construction. You will lead and mentor engineers and technicians, promote consistent engineering standards, and encourage effective collaboration across disciplines.
Desired Candidate Profile
Applicants should hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and be professionally qualified, or working towards professional registration, with substantial experience in bridge engineering and the delivery of complex infrastructure projects. You will need strong knowledge of bridge design principles, relevant codes and standards, construction practices, asset interfaces and health, safety and environmental requirements. Experience managing design teams, consultants and technical deliverables is essential, together with excellent communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software, as well as the ability to prioritise competing demands and make sound technical decisions, is expected. A proactive approach, strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality will be vital to success in this position.
