Purpose of the job
The Associate Cyber Security Engineer is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the design, implementation, assessment, and testing of cybersecurity controls across enterprise systems, applications, and new business initiatives , The role focuses on assisting senior cybersecurity testing engineers in ensuring that security requirements are embedded throughout the project lifecycle, The position provides hands-on exposure to security engineering, security assessments, and security testing within a structured cybersecurity function..
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in applying secure configuration baselines for systems, applications, and network components
- Participate in secure design and architecture reviews under supervision
- Support documentation of security architecture, configurations, and technical standards
- Assist in conducting security assessments for new business initiatives, systems, applications, and integrations
- Review project documentation such as architecture diagrams, data flows, and technical designs from a security perspective
- Identify potential security risks and gaps in proposed solutions
- Support preparation of security assessment reports, findings, and mitigation recommendations
- Assist in the security approval and sign-off process for new projects prior to production go-live
- Coordinate with project teams to clarify security requirements and controls
- Support execution of security testing activities including Vulnerability assessments, Configuration reviews, Basic application and infrastructure security testing
- Assist in validating remediation actions for identified vulnerabilities
- Track security findings and support closure with relevant technical teams
- Support coordination with third-party penetration testing or security assessment providers
- Maintain proper documentation of testing results and evidence
- Participate in audits, compliance activities, and internal security reviews
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelors degree in cyber security, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
Experience:
- Basic understanding of:
- Networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS)
- Operating systems (Windows and Linux fundamentals)
- Familiarity with security domains such as:
- Network Security
- Application Security
- Cloud Security (basic awareness)
- Exposure to security testing tools is an advantage (e.g., vulnerability scanners, web security tools)
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and documentation abilities
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
Preferred
- Graduation from a recognized cybersecurity program or track (e.g., ITI Cyber Security)
- Internship or hands-on lab experience in cybersecurity
- Entry-level certifications: Security+, CEH (Junior), ISO 27001 Foundation
- Basic scripting knowledge (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
