Background

The USAID Jordan Tourism Board Activity (JTBA) aims to improve Jordan’s tourism sector, primarily through supporting the Jordan Tourism Board’s (JTB’s) efforts to strategically position and promote Jordan as a distinctive destination. Further, the JTBA will increase domestic and international tourism to primary and secondary sites, boosting the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and enabling economic growth and job creation across the tourism value chain. JTBA will achieve its objectives in close coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA) and local and international partners

 

Position Description

The Data and Innovation Advisor supports the Deputy Chief of Party/Team Lead — Destination Marketing and Promotion in technical activity implementation as well as work planning related to Objectives

1: Marketing Strategy Development; 2: Data Management Platform Development; 3: Digital Marketing Activities; 4: Business-to-Business Marketing Activities. Specifically, the Data and Innovation Advisor will be the Component’s technical Point of Contact to oversee the successful implementation of JTB-facing activities under Objective 2 which aims at developing and launching a multi-data source platform to drive informed and evidence-based tourism development efforts by MoTA, JTB and the overall sector. The Data and Innovation Advisor also supports Deputy Chief of Party/Team Lead — Destination Marketing and Promotion in activities related to Objective 1 and 3. The candidate will also support Institutional and Product Development Team Lead in activities under Objectives 5: Promotion of Sustainable Tourism Experiences; 6: Training and Capacity Building; 7: Emerging Opportunities and Needs to Optimize the Tourism Sector, as needed. The Data and Innovation Advisor provides technical stewardship and excellence in working with JTB and tourism trade on data management, analysis, and leveraging emerging technologies to drive innovation within the JTBA mandate. This role requires a deep understanding of data strategies, a keen eye for identifying opportunities for improvement, and the ability to develop and implement innovative solutions to support JTB and trade improve their business performance underpinned by JTB strategies and aligned with the National Tourism Strategy and overall direction of the GOJ. Lastly, the Data and Innovation Advisor liaises with various GOJ representatives, private sector stakeholders, civil society, and tourism service providers, as needed.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Deputy Chief of Party/Team Lead — Destination Marketing and Promotion in the management of the various technical activities under Objectives 1 - 4.
  • Serve as JTB’s main technical liaison and Point of Contact on the activity team related to Data Management Platform and Innovation – Objective 2. These include, but not limited to, DMP development, testing and launching; working with partners and stakeholders on developing a framework for next iteration of DMP - DMP 2.0 - to maximize the DMP’s impact and usefulness; support stakeholders on activities related to Tourism Satellite Accounts, such as the design and launch Departure and Arrival Survey; work with partners on understanding the utility of the DMP and how it can be optimized for imp[roved business performance.
  • Supports the successful implementation of other activities that are related to the project, as advised by the DCOP in close coordination with other team leads;
  • Apply in-depth technical expertise, ensuring an integrated vision among objectives and focus on achieving results.
  • Ensure that activities are results-oriented, that deliverables are high quality, and that reporting is relevant and timely.
  • Focus on achieving results in all areas on schedule and ensuring synergies and cohesion between activities.
  • Participate and engage in technical meetings and maintain positive relationships with relevant government officials, partners, and implementing partners.
  • Support in developing and implementing annual work plans, reflecting the needs and priorities of USAID
  • Practice effective coordination with crosscutting technical resources to ensure timely and quality activities implementation.

 

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for the position are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field. 
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in AI, data analytics and insights, and innovation in Jordan or other similar destinations. 
  • Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis tools and proven experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI. 
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to develop innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good knowledge in MS Office. 

 

Supervision and Reporting

The Data and Innovation Advisor reports to and is supervised directly by the Deputy Chief of Party/Team Lead — Destination Marketing and Promotion.

Location

The post of assignment is Amman, Jordan.

Level of Effort

This is a long-term, full-time billable position.
