Context

The “Harnessing synergies between Climate Change Adaptation and Risk Reduction in Migrant-Inclusive Health System Responses” is a multi-year regional programme, funded by the Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MMPTF). The programme, which is jointly implemented by IOM, WHO and UNDRR, covers three target countries, namely Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon. The programme aims to contribute to strengthening synergies between Climate Change Adaptation and risk reduction in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) through mainstreaming a gender-sensitive human mobility lens into national public health adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction strategies. The programme intends to complement on-going climate adaptation and risk reduction national efforts in the target countries, and contribute to the Global Compact for Migration objectives 1, 3 and 17 and the Sustainable Development Goals Target 1.5, 3.8 and 3.D through focusing on the most vulnerable to climate change impacts on health and promoting universal health coverage.

Climate change, health and human mobility nexus is a critical theme in MENA, and IOM is committed to addressing multi-dimensional impacts of the nexus and expand this portfolio to better assist its Member States, migrants and host communities in the region.

Under the overall guidance of the Regional Director for RO MENA,  under the direct supervision of the Regional Migration, Environment and Climate Change (MECC) Specialist for RO MENA, and in close coordination with the Senior Regional Thematic Specialist (RTS) for Migration Health Division (MHD), and other relevant RO Units as well as the Programme Leads of IOM Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon, the incumbent will be responsible for providing effective coordination and implementation support of the regional MMPTF programme and supporting the RO and Country Offices (COs) to expand the portfolio of health impact of climate change in the context of migration through formulating new project ideas to advance the agenda in the region.
