JOB TITLE: Logistics Officer
TEAM/PROGRAMME: Supply Chain LOCATION: Cairo Office
GRADE: 4 TYPE OF CONTRACT: National Staff –Fixed term 6 months

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:


Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.



ROLE PURPOSE:


The position holder will be responsible to Coordinate all supply chain activities for the humanitarian response being executed in Egypt. Including overland transport to the borders strip, warehouse and preparedness stock, handling and coordination of supply chain issues, including procurement, warehousing activities in consistency with Save the Children policies and procedures, in the HQ (Cairo) for the humanitarian response.



SCOPE OF ROLE:


Reports to: Supply chain manager.


Staff directly reporting to this post:


Travel: possible travel to governorates around 10-15 %.



KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND DELIVERABLES


· Manage relationships with trucking companies, negotiating rates, and ensuring timely delivery of goods


· Coordinate truck schedules to optimize efficiency and minimize empty runs


· Oversee the dispatching of trucks, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to regulations.


· Collaborate with the logistics cluster to identify transportation needs and resources


· Participate in cluster meetings to discuss challenges, share best practices, and coordinate efforts.


· Work with other cluster members to streamline processes and improve overall logistics efficiency.


· Organize with the warhouse officer the day to day shipments.


· Develop and maintain optimal transportation routes to minimize costs and delivery times.


· Responsible for updating the trackers and update operations on timely on each truck status.


· Monitor route performance and make adjustments as necessary to ensure on-time delivery


· Ensure all transportation-related documentation is accurate and up-to-date, including, shipping manifests, and other paperwork.


· Stay informed about transportation regulations and compliance requirements, ensuring adherence at all times.


· Coordinate with warehouse and inventory teams to ensure seamless movement of goods from storage to transportation


· Implement systems to track and trace shipments throughout the transportation process.


· Conduct procurement process to contract transportation service providers if needed


· Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in the transportation network, such as weather events, traffic congestion, or security threats.


· Develop contingency plans and mitigation strategies to address potential disruptions


· Actively seek feedback from stakeholders, including trucking companies, logistics partners, and internal teams, to identify areas for improvement

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


· Bachelor’s degree in relevant business field is required


· 3 to 6 years of work experience in the field of logistics procurement and supply chain is required.


· Adequate skills on business management and/or ERP systems such as SAP, ARIBA etc.


· High computer skills on MS office programs especially MS Excel


· Experience with Child Rights and Child Rights Programming is desirable


· Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.


· Highly developed facilitation and capacity building skills.


· Good communication and writing skills in English language is required.


· Commitment to Save the Children’s values.


· Emergency response experience is an asset
