A Snapshot of Your DayThe Welding Engineer’s Day starts either in an office environment, on the Shopfloor, or on-site. You are responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications to understand requirements with regards to welding and/or welding equipment maintenance. You will work closely with a team of welders, NDT specialists, a multidisciplinary group of repair engineers, providing tasks, structuring the day, ensuring timely, and safe implementation of tasks with the required quality level and will be reporting to the Welding department Manager. You will have created welding procedures or maintenance procedures, aligned specific requirements with your subcontractors, Backoffice, Project Management and Competence Center. You might engage in the actual welding process or provide guidance to welders, ensuring that the welds are of quality and meet the required standards using different welding technologies on materials and components. Throughout the day, you are required to communicate with project manager, outage manager, other engineers, or team members to coordinate tasks, resolve technical issues, and ensure that the welding works aligns with the overall project timeline and objectives.Aside from workshop and on-site activities, you may be involved in welding qualifications activities to explore new welding repair techniques, materials, or technologies to improve efficiency and quality in your field. Safety is a constant consideration throughout your day, ensuring that all welding activities adhere to safety regulations and best practices to minimize the risk of accidents or hazards in the workplace.How You’ll Make An ImpactPerform regular inspections of welding work in progress to ensure that the final weldment meets the specified quality standards. This involves visual inspections, as well as non-destructive testing methods like ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, magnetic particle testing, or liquid penetrant testing.Prepare and maintain inspection records and reports to ensure all welding work is up to code. This may involve documenting nonconformities and ensuring corrective actions are taken.Review project specifications, Codes & standards to develop welding procedures to guide welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post- heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints and complex post- heating requirements.Develop and maintain corporate welding procedures (WPS) and welder performance qualification records (WPQRs)Develop, qualify, write, and certify PQR(s) and WPS(s) for internal stakeholders on-site welding activities.Ensure compliance with national and international codes and standards such as ISO 3834, ASME Section IX, API 1104, etc.Train welders on the requirements of the quality standards and provide guidance on how to meet these standards.Participate in project planning and meetings, advising on welding quality issues, and helping to develop project schedules and budgets.Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure high levels of performance and safety.Provide technical advice to the welding team and other stakeholders about welding matters.Conduct and coordinate root cause analysis and welding related issues.Operate customized mechanized welding system e.g., welding robot to perform complex filed repairs and component replacement installations.Ensure all welding equipment is properly maintained and calibrated as per the required standards.What You BringDegree in welding engineering or qualification as a Welding Supervisor in related field.Minimum of 5 years’ experience in welding technologies in practical application, and scientific background as a licensed Welder/ Welding Supervisor/ Engineer in accordance with international standards.Candidate from Power Plant, Oil & Gas, Automation, Transportation industry would have added advantage.Certified IIW Welding specialist (IWS)/ technician (IWT)/ welding engineer (IWE) - (Workscope acc. DIN EN ISO 14731) is preferred.Comprehensive knowledge (theoretical/ practical) in welding process 111/141/135Knowledge of typical standards and regulations (e.g., AD 2000/ DIN EN 13480/ DIN EN ISO 3834/ etc.) and applicationAbility to identify correct selection of welding equipment, consumables, and gas mixtures acc. instructions.General profound understanding of technical equipment and ability to work with/based on technical documentation.Digital literacy, confident user of relevant IT-applications (Microsoft Office), additional IT-competence will be beneficial.Pro-active, problem solving and ready to work attitude, readiness to take additional tasks to improve the status Quo if needed.Understanding of relevant industry standards for Quality and HSEFluent in English Language (Written & Oral), other languages are beneficial.Strong analytical skills with an affinity to technology and innovation in the service industry combined with a proactive and convincing attitude.Team player with high level of resilience, the ability to work independently under pressure, multitask and focus on problem solving in a complex environment collaborating with international teams.Willing to travel internationally on short notice and work flexible hours.About The TeamThe Repair Center team in Ain Sokhna, Egypt focuses on heavy repairs of SGT 5-8000H Class GT Burners’ installed fleet in Egypt using latest repair technologies and capabilities. This is in addition to repairs of other Siemens Energy industrial rotating equipment (Turbo compressors, Industrial Steam Turbines, Reciprocating compressors, Aeroderivative gas turbines). The Repair Center also supports on-site activities in the power plants and other sites in the region Middle East.
