Main Purpose |
Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to in-scope patients according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients’ health conditions. |
Accountabilities |
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
- Keep the patient and/or his family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, and make sure that they have fully understood the dosage and special instructions.
- Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits , consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
- Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
- Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
- Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
- Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance, organizing and scheduling shifts and rotations, directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities |
The MSF project in Giza runs an outpatient clinic that offers a comprehensive package of care. This package includes medical care, psychological care, social support (referrals) and physiotherapy. Each patient has a personalized treatment plan. A strong community component has also been developed and Mental Health services are provided at community level. Specific accountabilities: | - Ensure all patients are treated with the utmost respect, regardless of their race, origin, religion, or political affiliation, fostering a culture of dignity and fairness while maintaining professional integrity
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to examine, asses, diagnose and treat outpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment according to MSF/national protocols.
- Provide family planning services, ANC/PNC services including ultrasound, minor surgical procedures and follow up of orthopedic, internal medicine cases.
- In coordination with the Medical Supervisor, follow up on patients who are admitted to our referral hospitals and non-contracted facilities if they require admissions like surgery, communicate with the attending physician regarding the patients case and try to have discharge prescriptions that are under MSF standard list.
- Be part of ongoing training of the medical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care, as well as participate in training sessions that will update medical knowledge and skills to be better equipped in managing specialized cases.
- Actively participate in the documentation and certification required by patients.
- Follow MSF clinical guidelines and prescribe medication according to the approved MSF standard list.
- Follow all MSF protocol on documenting all medical cases, making sure all appropriate documents are filled up correctly; follow and be responsible for the file’s closure
- Ensure proper handling of patient information and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with the nursing staff professionally in providing medical care to all patients
- Participate actively in medical and interdepartmental meetings.
- Participate and present case-studies in the clinic on a regular basis to share medical knowledge and to analyze data to improve patient care and quality control.
- Be able to work in the clinic in a collegial ways, as part of a team with other medical and non-medical staff, to ensure a more efficient patient workflow.

EducationEssential: Family medicine specialist Diploma with valid Egyptian Medical Syndicate registration and holder of a valid MOH license. ExperienceEssential: minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work. Desirable: previous working experience with a Humanitarian organization/ institution.Desirable: experience in one or several of the following specialties: gynecology/obstetrics, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, rheumatology.
