PROJECT BACKGROUND: Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project (“the Project”) is an eight-year USAID-funded activity (2018 – 2026), supported by the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative. The Project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. The Project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The Project operates in greater Cairo, Upper Egypt, and the Nile Delta, through three strategic regional offices in Luxor, Minya and Gharbia, in addition to the main office in Giza. 

ASSIGNMENT BACKGROUND: As Professional Technical Writer in the field of Agriculture/Agribusiness, you will mainly assist the Communications Lead in preparing high quality periodic technical reports reflecting the project’s actual progress work against preset plans in compliance with USAID reporting requirements. To this end, you will work closely with the technical team and other staff members to assist them in preparing, editing, and finalizing the required progress reports on a timely basis. You will also make sure all statistics and data provided by the technical team are fully consistent with the same shown on the M&E system. You may be required to frequently travel to the project’s field sites for the purposes of your assignment. 

ASSIGNMENT DURATION: Maximum of 95 days during 1 March 2024 - 31 December 2024

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other tasks may be assigned by your supervisor)

  1. Write up detailed monthly technical reports on the activities performed by the technical team members based on their feedback and the outcomes of your follow-up one-on-one communications/meetings with them.  
  2. Carry out regular follow-up communications/meetings with the technical team members to:
  • Document the weekly progress and final outcomes of the interventions, recommendations, training courses and technical assistance they have provided to the project beneficiaries.
  • Ensure they provide their required reports and feedback information on a timely basis as per preset monthly timetables.  
  • Assist them in properly articulating and completing their reports.  

3. In reporting, ensure to highlight the following:

  • Technical methodologies, know-hows and/or approaches used,
  • Specific challenges encountered,
  • Lessons learned, and
  • Achievements accomplished and their direct or indirect impact on project’s progression towards its preset objectives.   

4. Use the weekly and monthly information indicated above in drafting quarterly reports elaborately reflecting the project’s efforts and outcomes during the reporting period.     

5. Ensure all data, statistics, and information documented and reported by the technical team are consistent with the same on M&E system. 

6. Work collaboratively with the technical, MEL, and Communications teams to outline interventions, targeted beneficiaries, value chains, farm sizes, and potential or achieved impact.

7. Attend the annual workplan sessions and document their outcomes. 

8. Adhere to the following rules governing the report-writing process:

  • All reports addressed to the donor must comply with USAID reporting requirements.
  • Transform all collected information and data into a unified narrative showcasing the project's achievements and ongoing efforts.
  • Document key findings, methodologies, and results in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Apply consistent formatting and reporting standards throughout the drafting process.
  • Review and edit drafts according to team feedback and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to ensure reports are visually appealing and accessible to the targeted audience (USAID).
  • Track and address all comments and requested revisions efficiently.
  • Stay up to date on relevant reporting guidelines and best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of reporting templates and processes.
  • Standardize all units of measure (e.g., kilograms, tons, meters, dollars, Egyptian Pounds) and number formats (e.g., decimal places, commas) for consistency across the report to ensure data comparability and clarity throughout the report.
  • Convert all data to a common unit of measure or format where appropriate for meaningful comparison and analysis within the report.
  • Integrate a dedicated section or paragraph within each intermediate result (IR) to explicitly address how cross-cutting components such as social behavior change, information, and communication technology (ICT) and gender are being considered and addressed.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with all technical team across different stages of the report writing to correlate activities and reflect on the Project’s core objectives.
  • Develop, document, review, and edit technical reports through various drafting stages till delivered.
  • Ensure using technical key words across the report.
  • Document outcomes, and impact of the Project’s activities.
  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.

DELIVERABLES:

  1. Monthly time reports.  
  2. Monthly reports on completed tasks. 
  3. All reports indicated above.

Must have a minimum of B.Sc. degree in agriculture and minimum 15 years’ work experience in the developmental agriculture/agribusiness sector, of which at least 10 years with USAID-funded projects.Proven working experience in professional technical writing.Proficient in producing high quality, grammatically correct, error-free, coherent, and elaborate reports.Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.Must master communication in spoken and written English.Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and online platformsExperience of communicating to different stakeholder groups and partnersAbility to manage time effectively and perform multiple tasks.Communication and Teamwork Skills: Must be an excellent communicator, team-player with demonstrated interpersonal and networking skills.Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit several samples of their writing productions containing similar contents as well as verifiable documents indicating their most recent remunerations for similar consultancy services.
